Boxster Alarm Gremlins

Recommended Posts

Ok I swear that I have little gremlins living under the seats in my Boxster that like to come out at night and set off my alarm. The thing is, there seems to be no rhyme or reason to the alarm going off. I have tried to reproduce the problem by setting the alarm then banging on the windows, to no avail.

I know that there are some factory options you can set for the alarm, and I notice that the horn will beep when I set the alarm if I leave the arm rest console open. The thing is, I have tried locking it, or keeping it open, and still 3-4 times per week my alarm starts going off....

I am worried that one of these days I will park it for the weekend, the alarm will start going off, and it will drain my battery (is this even possible?)

Any ideas?

My BMW did the same thing a few months after getting it. Took it to the dealer, they basically said oh, ok, redid the electronics however they did they (they had to manually reenter the mileage into the odometer, so whatever they did was a hard reset) and it never did it again...and yes I do know that the alarm still works.

I would venture a guess that it's a somewhat loose hood/trunk or a bad switch and that when it gets windy it sets it off, this use to happen to my a4 all the time

  • 1 year later...

Unfortunately my 2000 base model seems to also have this unexpected alarm issue. Twice in one night the the alarm suddenly went off with no obvious reason. The only thing I think it could be is that I routinely make sure the steering wheel is locked when I exit the vehicle. However tonight I did not lock the steering wheel. I hope this is the problem.

Any thoughts anyone??
