04 Cayenne Turbo Started to Sputter

Hello,

Cayenne started sputtering this morning. I have a feeling that it is the coils. It is acting like it cannot get enough power, and the engine is rough idling. This is the 2nd time that I would have to replace a coil. I do not have a durametric, and I am worried about driving it the 40 plus miles to my nearest Porsche Dealership. (1) Is there anyone here that has a DIY guide to changing these things out? (2) How can I tell which coil is bad? (3) What are the coil part numbers so I can order them? Any help would be appreciated. Fuel pumps were changed out about 1000 miles ago. I will try changing coils, and diagnose further after that. Car starts fine, Drives, however I have a huge lack of power.

If it was a misfire, a fault code and flashing check engine light would occur often in a few seconds. It's recommend to replace all of the coils at the same time with the most updated part number.

I would verify that there isn't a fault with the fuel pump install. I have seen more then a few times the internal piping in the tank come adrift after pump replacement.

Finally!! CEL came on, and immediately diagnosed with OBDII. Code reads as follows: P0300 Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected. P0302 Cylinder 2 misfire detected. I finally started car today, and CEL immediately came on. Shut it down, and instantly diagnosed with OBDII. So, based on the codes, should I replace Cylinder 2 Coil? I will also replace plugs while I am at it. Any further guidance from renntech members would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry for hijacking this thread but my wife's 06 cayenne s had the coils/sparks replaced and the 2 fuel pumps. The car still hesitates/sputters when cold but better when warmed up. Car has 96k miles and there no cel's and it's been doing this for last 3 months. Any ideas? I'm at a loss. Mike

Hi I have a similar issue I replaced the plugs and one coil which threw an erro for two weeks the cayenne was running great now no power pulling away from lights I did get error for random misfires then two different misfires in cylinders cleared the errors still runs bad undriveable should I replace the coils giving the errors even if the error hasn't returned.    Took the car out this morning ran fine as soon as it heated up it started to cough and sputter on acceleration any ideas ?

Assuming you have check for codes and not found any then why not pull the coils (and plugs) and look for cracks and plug condition?

Heating up then having issues also can be a sensor o2, temp etc or actuator like the n75 or change over valve, but more unlikely. I would focus and eliminate the coils and spark plugs first.
