  1. I brought it to the dealer. Apparently, this is a new feature since 2003 in 911s, but I have a MY99 so they replaced my ignition lock/steer lock housing. It ended up costing a little over $400. They re-calibrated my keys to the central locking system and re-enabled my radio. Ahh, I found this thread that described my exact issue: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=493 Looks like I continue to be the coward here and pay the dealer to fix my issues. I do not have the patience or automotive skills to accomplish these fixes as many of you, but continue to be impressed by the knowledge on this board and the enthusiasm of the DYIers to correct these common Porsche issues.
  2. I'm in Atlanta and Jim Ellis Porsche sold me the Fidelity Insurance Gold Plus plan (extended warranty) 2 years ago and, so far, it stinks. It has not covered anything-- Air bag light fix ($600 w/labor) Reverse light switch ($125 w/labor) Vanity mirror lid assembly ($125 w/labor) Iginition lock/steer lock housing ($400 w/labor) I bought it after I had the RMS leak fix ($2500) and they have not approved a repair yet.
  3. MY'99 C4 Cab Besides taking the 996 to Porsche, is there a trick to removing the key from the ignition? I called the 800 roadside assistance center and they said that Porsche needs to remove the key and that the key is stuck in the ignition because the battery was completely dead. Thanks.
  4. http://autos.msn.com/as/minishow/article.a...rt2005&src=News The Cayman specs look good and should be a nice crossover car from the Boxster S and 911. This caught my attention: Any comments?
  5. Interesting. i just had this happen. Jim Ellis Porsche (Atlanta) told me that it was not covered in my extended warranty and gave me the options: 1- $100 Diagnostic fee, turn off warning, and with the possibility of an airbag deployment failure if I didn't fix it or 2- $450 Fee to install new seat belt harnesses and deactivate the light (labor free). Did I just get robbed? They never mentioned that it's a TSB item (they never do as I fell victim to the RMS leak issue and paid out of pocket to correct it). I bought the extended warranty before the factory warranty expired.
  6. Is the seat belt warning light and changing the harness issue common in 99 996's? I just had this happen and my extended warranty didn't cover it.
  7. Any success with a connector for an MP3 player? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> No, I'm waiting for a BlueTooth reciever for the PCar, lose the wires, and connect my cell or PocketPC to it instead. It will be cleaner (without wires). As for the $16 Becker harness, it looks very simple: 1- Yank stereo 2- Unplug Blue harness (keeping the line from the required cd changer) 3- Add new Blue harness 4- Fish cable around to where you can reach it. If you've figured out how to get the radio out with the Becker tool, the operation appears to take less than 10 minutes and you're good to go. PM Toolpants just in case I'm wrong.
  8. I was about to make a post on this very subject. I am also experiencing the same conditions, so I guess this is normal? My 996 C4 does this, but my Boxster S does not.
  9. If you put the GT3 badge, go ahead an add the Poser badge next to it, so be honest on your badge.
  10. What is the difference between the ROW M030 vs. X74 vs. Bilstein PSS9 ? I'm not looking to track it, but want better handling on the road.
  11. That's seal grey right? Funny, mine came with a pretty blonde also in the passenger seat. :)
  12. I didn't see a Hawaii site for the EVO shop. How and who are you folks getting it installed by over there?
  13. Thanks. It just seemed odd. I'm a member of other forums where vendors seem to be dishonest. I wonder why he dropped the $11k he mentioned, only to buy a CGT, and dump the upgraded, unbroken in car? If any one can passes emissions, let us know the upgrade and state emissions passed in. Thanks.
  14. I'm sure it'll work. I paid Porsche $75 for mine.
  15. It worked fine for me, but my wife found a self-service car wash that has a deonizer spray which is the trick to this product. The deonized water is what allows the water to sheet off and requires no drying. All for $1.50.
  16. It's a little known secret that dealerships farm this out to upholstery shops. Find one you trust and remember that a lot of those clowns smoke. Also, make sure your battery is charged well before leaving your Boxster there.
  17. Has he passed VA emissions testing with the SC installed?
  18. I have a 000 043 202 56 Porsche charger which I swap on the 911 C4 Cab and the Boxster S. Specs: 120 AC +/- 10% 12V 0.5 A IU
  19. Here's why I'm wary of this mod: http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=&...=5&o=93&fpart=1 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2481662678 I don't know Ben, but he's the same guy that got the mod installed on 6speedonline, posted positive feedback about it, last posted there that he was in the break-in period, then posted favorably again at rennteam.com, and now has it on eBay? VERY SUSPICIOUS! Ben's comment on rennteam: http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=&...=5&o=93&fpart=1 His other comments on the mod are already provided above in my other posts.
  20. Another victim, I mean guinea pig, I mean customer... http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthr...?threadid=11620 His results with Itzkirb's demo. So far, no one's talking about actually passing emmissions.
  21. No track time for me, although Road Atlanta was fun when I first bought the Pcar (Porsche experience was free then to new owners). The thought of quietly hanging or taking some of the TTs, Vipers, and Ferraris around town is very appealing. Many of the folks reporting on the upgrade were '00-'01 996 owners, so our 3.4 should take it....BUT this mod just came out, so I'll wait for more reports over 6 months (or a reported blow up). At the 6speedonline.com forum, only 2 guys reported the mod. I'm always a little wary regarding these reports on forums because they could be plants. I'm new to that site, so I don't a level of trust to go based on just their May '04 new installation assessments. From what I've read today, both guys are still in the break-in period.
  22. Wow, good news about it. But I'm worried about passing emmissions testing with it. Looks like a smart upgrade--makes the 996 almost as fast as the TT, GT2, and GT3. According to that board "Hang with the TT." Sweet! Links on feedback: http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthr...vo&pagenumber=2 http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthr...0&highlight=evo So with this mod, people are also pushing the light flywheel. Any idea how much that is?I'm married now, so gotta explain purchases to the Mrs.:) Has anyone done this in Atlanta? All of the shops are in Az, PA, NY, and CA.
  23. Is that the correct URI? Site doesn't come up for me.
  24. Does anyone have any feelings on these folks and their 996 supercharger? http://www.evoms.com/porsche%20ec%20art%20test.htm http://www.evoms.com/p%20996%20SC%20upgrade.htm $10k and you're faster than a Stock 996 GT3 & Supercup GT3 http://www.evoms.com/P%20996%20SC%20dyno%20gt3.htm It's tempting. Anyone do this to their car?
