  1. I had a pop noise also, turns out one of the connecting rods for the top broke and the added stress one only 1 rod would cause a pop...once i replaced the broken rod, all was well...it was hard to tell the rod wa broken at first glance but if you tilt your head in alittle , you can see the plasti end is shattered.
  2. Here comes some rain on your parade...I wouldnt invest any money on upgrading the looks of the boxster...when you can afford it, just lease or purchase a 996...there about 40k and sometimes alittle less.
  3. I see, is the noise typically a chatter or rattle at low speeds over bumps or cracks in the road, Majority of the noise is coming from my 2 rear struts...Any idea what that could be...i heard that when struts get so old that something internally will rattle and chatter cause of wear or miss-alignment due to excessive wear. it's likely not your struts. a chatter / clackity-clack in the rear (more prominent when cold) is usually due to a worn bearing in the upper control arms. the upper control arms must be replaced as the bearings are not servicable. the strut top mount bearings mentioned before are generally the culprit if you hear noises from the front (again, not necessarily the strut itself). hmmm if it were the rear upper control arms....I remember complaining to my dealer during the 30 day warrantee period about the noise and they said it was the rear shocks but they didnt cover worn shocks.....Do you think if it is the control arm, they would then honor the replacement since i did bring it up and a control arm sounds way more dangerous.??? OH yeah, the chattering and rattle are there all the time no matter the tempurature, but only audiable at speeds between 1-25mph.... any faster and i can roll over bumps and cracks in the road and will not hear anything outta the ordinary.

  5. I need some advice before starting, Within the Strut assembly, Front & Back... What are other peices can wear or break and cause rattling in my strut assembly??? Reason im asking is that when i do the Strut change, i dont wanna put it all together and still have rattling in the suspension. I have low Speed rattles over bumps/cracks in the roads. If anyone has an exploded view of the struts...that would help ALOT! At the dealer, there looks to be something that has bearings in it made of Black Plastic that goes inside the strut assembly and also these things called Compensator rings..i dont know that they do but they are in the assembly of the strut and coil spring....do those ever wear? Thanks guy and gals.
  6. ok, First you should look for the clutch slave cyclindar and check for leaks. usually thats the first to go bad, after that its your Clutch Master cyclindar....Im not sure the setup of the slave cyclindar but on my other cars, when it would go bad i could peal back this rubber dust cover sleeve from the slave and it would be loaded with clutch fluid when worn out....easy part to replace.
  7. Well i installed the new fuel filter and thought it would work cause the old one wasnt as free flowing at the new one but still the same issue. The car idles alot nicer than before. I ordered a fuel pump today so ill have that in hand by next week. Ill update you all on the aftermath of the installation.
  8. The link doesnt work anymore, i need this cause im replacing my fuel filter tomorrow. anyone know where it went. keeps taking me to main page of forums.
  9. Yeah i know about the dangers of running dry. But about the disconnecting of the battery, well it didnt work. Looks like im going to be replacing the filter tomorrow, I really hope this fixes the issue cause not only am i running lean, I have reduced power all along the RPM range., Ill keep you posted on the results of the filter replacment... BTW does anyone know how easy it should be to blow air through the filter if it isnt clogged?
  10. Ok Loren, i just disconnected the battery for about 4 minutes and reconnected it...it was enough time to reset my trip distance, time and trip the radio to prompt me for a radio code, I started it but about 1 minute and turned it back off, the real test is the ride home after i leave work., Ill let you know how it turned out. I think Ill replace the fuel filter regaurdless of the outcome since it is 40,000 miles past its expiration and would probably improve throttle responce and free up some lost hp that i've been missing. When im done paying this off in 2 years, ill just buy a Porsche like yours. This one is my starter Porsche, I had a 1965 912 when i was 22 about 2 years ago but that doesnt count since its not a well engineered at the newer stuff is.
  11. Ok ill try that first, If not, my local Porsche dealer has the filters instock for 47 bucks.
  12. Right now im having issue with my 1997 boxster 98k miles, Yesterday i Ran dangerously low on fuel, I think i had about 30 seconds till i stalled the car before making it to gas station, My car did stumble 15 feet before pulling up to the pump but didnt turn off. After refueling, i notice when leaving the station that i had alittle stumble in the low rpms range from 1000 to 1700 Rpms. Say im in 4th gear at 1500 rpms and accelerate, The car will stumble about once or twice until the RPMs reach 2000 rpm's then everything clears up, Although i can note that there is a drop in acceleration, it doesnt pick up as quickly as it should. My theory is that i sucked up some sediment from the bottom of the tank and the already "used up" fuel filter is now effecting the performance of the Boxster to the point that i can notice it. PLEASE before i replace this, Has anyone here experienced something like that that can be directly atributed to the fuel filter being clogged with shmuts, gunk, sediment or caputs.
  13. I had a bad experience painting calipers in the past...2 days after the paint dried, i wanted to clean the brake dust off them with brake cleaner...the brake cleaner made the dust get permantely embedded into the paint.....So how do you clean your painted calipers??? ALSO did you know that autozone or pep boys in SoCal sells "Brake Caliper Paint"?
  14. What can happen if this tube isnt connected to the battery...I noticed that hose sitting around my battery and didnt know what it went to.
  15. Whoa, 5k, alittle pricy but very nice as far as looks go.
  16. Has anyone ever gotten a price quote for this conversion?
  17. i got this same code today in the AM, I took the car to my fathers house and hooked up his odbII scanner and i got a P1411...I just cleared the code and it hasnt come back yet.
  18. YES THAT IS EXACTLY WHAT AND HOW IT IS BROKEN ON MY CAR, i seen some on ebay for 53 bucks...is the white plastic version a more sturdy plastic?
  19. What does that push rod do, i just discovered that the red cup on my push rod has snapped.
  20. On my passenger side assembly of the TOP, there is this 1 foot long rod with a red plastic joint...the joint snapped off the ball and is broken....what does this part do for the top?
  21. Turns out, MAS code on ECU, guess dealers 30 warrantee is gonna fix this too...too bad they wont cover my cracked covertible window, it basically shattered today!!!
  22. I have a 97 Box non-S, Today when i was driving home from the x-games, i accelerated in 1st gear hard and at about 4800rpms, the car stumbled as if i let off the gas suddenly...Now i get home and take a shower and get back in my car and start it and it Starts for about 1.5 seconds before it stalls. So the Car starts and the RPMs goto about 1100rpms and then right back down to 0000rpms... Is this typical of a faulty Feul pump or feul filter? if it is the Filter, How and where is it installed? If it is the Pump, How and where is it installed?
  23. Heres a photo of my storage tray incase your interested. I'd like to have a cup holder that does not block my ac vents.
