  1. Once the fuse pops, the circuit is dead all the way back to the power source. You can now check the fan motor itself for a internal short using a multimeter. That looks like the OEM fan.
  2. You need to start looking for a short in the system. Disconnect the fan harness at the fan and check for a short; you can also try jumpering the fan itself to see if it runs without issue. You may also need to check the relay and temp sensor circuits for shorts as well. This is a process of elimination to find where the problem(s) lie.
  3. OK, if you look in the lower left corner of the image I posted above, you will see the entire left trim piece of the dash(three buttons and lighter), which contains the lighter; this has to be pull off the dash panel to proceed. Tool for the job is a wooden tongue depressor (like a doctor uses) or some similar non marring device. Slide the tool under the trim piece and gently pull the trim while working the tool around its rim to extract it from the dash. It will pop right off. Once pulled off, you will see the lighter's electrical plug on the rear, just unplug it (you cannot get the old socket out without disconnecting it). Once the lighter is unplugged, you can commence removing the old one and installing the new parts.
  4. Not really, probably an actuator issue. Relatively straight forward fix: P1341 Camshaft Adjustment, Bank 1 – Below LimitPotential causes:– Short to ground– Actuator faulty– Open circuit in triggering wire– Open circuit in B+ supplyI'd check the wiring connector for corrosion or a bad wire, a common cause.
  5. Did you change the flywheel during the rebuild? And please do not double post, it is against the forum rules you agreed to when you signed up.............

  7. Possibly, best to get it scanned on a Porsche specific system (PIWIS or Durametric).
  8. Don't over think this, and don't be concerned about possibly breaking the clear bezel on the old lighter as you are going to be throwing it in the trash when you are done. The new unit's kit should include a new one. No, you do not need to disconnect the battery, but you do need to unplug the old lighter from the wiring harness before proceeding.
  9. Without a scan and the full code readout, anything would be a pure guess..................
  10. If this dealer cannot, or will not, print out what you are asking for, I think it is time to move on and look elsewhere..................
  11. I really would not go that route as it destroys flow; most use special mounts to lower the engine so it will clear the engine cover.
  12. They are different if going from a five speed to s six speed gearbox.
  13. Can it be done? Sure, with enough money, time, welding rod, and duct tape; anything is possible. Some differences; DME, engine wiring harness, intake system (height), fuel system, and exhaust system. If you are well equipped, and enjoy fabrication, it is an interesting project.
  14. It should, but the clutch may be different between the 5 and 6 speeds.
  15. I think the real "take away" message here is that sometimes Porsche uses weird components, like the Seimens DME, with little of no notice, which makes diagnostics a bit more difficult for anyone without the PIWIS system.
  16. If you have gutted cats and a tampered DME, there is probably no way the system is correctly controlling the fuel/air ratios, particularly if/when the secondary air injection system is running afer a cold start up. You are going to need to collect a lot of operational data on what the engine and sensors are doing during a cold start in order to figure out what you need to undo to get the car running correctly.
  17. I would not be quite that blasé about a failing AOS; when they start to fail, they can cause the engine to inhale a big slug of oil under certain conditions, which would lead to the hydraulic locking of one or more cylinders and the total destruction of the engine. When you find an AOS going south, do not be driving the car around, get it fixed..............
  18. You may still have oil in the intake system, which is slow to come out, and a drop creates a cloud of smoke. As RFM stated, do not run the oil level high, that will only worsen your problems. Thanks for the advice. should I wipe out the oils from intake routes or should I leave it till the oil eventually is removed through time? Doing so is quite a bit of work as you would need to remove most of the intake system to do it. It would get rid of the smoking issue, but not knowing your expertise level, you need to think about both the effort to do it and the chance of ending up with vacuum leaks if you don't do it correctly.

Not sure how you can blame this on the Durametric scan tool; the codes seem to be for two unrelated engine events (P0021 is a code for cam timing issue on bank 2, P2181 is the cooling system) separated by time and miles, plus in any case either dealer would have used a PIWIS system which is pretty bullet proof as a diagnostics tool.
  20. If the throw-out bearing is totally off the fork, it can make one Hell of a din banging around on the transmission input shaft housing as it bounces off the back off the pressure plate fingers. Get a look at what is going on in there.....
