  1. My 2000 C2 just went past 100,000 miles a couple of weeks ago. It has the origional engine and I have just following the regular maintenance schedules on her and have had no problems. Does not use any oil and still runs strong. I do change the oil every 5,000 miles for peace of mind.
  2. I have the V1 and I love it. But like everybody else stated here, if the troppers are using a laser or your not looking for them, they will get you. I was getting on this morning and I got cut off by a guy in an old town car. Good thing he did, because right in front of us on the side of the road was a Highway Patrol Unit just waiting. Then a few miles ahead there was a Highway Patrol motorcycle officer writing up somebody too. That pretty much curbed by urge to go WOT today.
  3. 2000 C2 Tiptronic 90,500 miles. Only major problem was the power steering cracked out shortly after I replaced the water pump as a precaution at 90k. I believe that might have been mechanic's error. Other than that, I have been following the recommended service schedules for belt, plugs, brake bleeds, filters, and tranny service. I do change my oil every 5,000 miles though. :jump: :D
  4. I am getting 14.8 combined. I can barely get it up to 17 mpg on the higway when I take it on trips that are 60 miles or longer. I know that alot of the majors staggered up the ethanol over the last year. 5.7 -> 7.8 -> 10.0. I also changed my 02 sensors at 80k. I have not had any CEL's and I just had my 90k done without any faults.
  5. I noticed this too. I thought it was just me, I replaced my spark plugs and checked the coil packs hoping it would make a difference but it didn't. I know that California is now 10% Ethanol all year round now. All of the majors starting switching last year and now its mandatory for everybody in California to be at 10% Ethanol. Figured that it was because of the increase from 5.7% to 10% that caused my gas mileage to drop.
  6. I had a similiar situation last year. I filled up the reservoir and then a few days later the whining came back. I took it to my indi and he found that I had a leaking hose. Keep an eye on it, I heard that the Petrosin power steering fluid is flammable and the power steering pump is right above the engine. I have heard horror stories of fires because of the power steering fluid sprayed on a hot engine and caught fire.
  7. That is correct. My 2000 only has the left rear fog light come on. There are some posts here that tell you how you can wire up the other fog light if you want them both to work.
  8. Barry, I had the same problem when I got my 2000 C2. It turned out to be a $5 grommet on the tank had rotted out. But because they had to remove the spare tire and trunk liner to get to it and fix it turned out to be $100. Hope this helps. Han
  9. Malcolm, I have a 2000 996, but had the same whining noise you are having. It was slowly getting worse and I had just replaced all of the components that were driven by the pulley system. Pulley tensioner, water pump, vacuum pump, power steering pump, and had them check the pulley on the AC/Condensor. Still had the whining noise and it was slowly getting worse. My charging system showed everything was fine. I had my indi keep it for a few days and he said that the bearing on the alternator was going out. I told him to replace the alternator with a New Porsche one. $520, but everything is quiet and I have peace of mind too. Hope this helps.
  10. I just went through the same experience last weekend when I went to pick up my car from my indi shop. I left there for a couple of weeks to change out my control arms, alternator, and do a 90,000 service. The shop owner said that is like a new car now after he changed everything. When I started it up and listened, I heard the clattering noise. I asked him about it and he said "Its the lifters" when he said that my heart sank. But he laughed and said that because the car had been sitting for two weeks all of oil drained out of the lifters. He said to drive it a few miles and it will pump up the lifters. I went for a 5 mile drive and sure enough, no clattering noise. I have not heard it since. Hope this helps. Kbull88  :)
  11. You might want to check your brake ducts. I found one that was loose. And whenever I would go above 100 mph it would start to buzz. Sounded like someone stuck a card in a fan.
  12. I have 2000 C2 with 81k on the odometer. I went ahead and replaced the water pump, hoses, coolant recovery tank, pressure cap, pulleys, and tensioner at 80k. I figured it was time and replaced everything as preventive maintenance. 20/20 being hind site, I should have replaced the power steering pump and hoses too. They had to taken it off to replace the tensioner and pulley assembly. I work with a good indi, and I ordered all the major components and he installed them and took care of all the small misc. parts. Hope this helps.
  13. P.S. I also replaced the pulleys and tensioner. Since they have to be remove the power steering pump to replace the pulley tensioner, figured might as well replace it while it was off. It only takes a couple of gallons of Porsche coolant $25 each and a liter of Pentosin CHF 202, which was only 19.00.
  14. I just replaced my water pump, hoses, coolant recovery tank, cap, power steering pump, and hoses last week. I have a 2000 C2 with 81k and didn't want to wait for the water pump to go out on me. So I took the initiative and replace them all. Just replaced the polyrib belt during the 75k service, so I didn't need to replace it. Basically it was cheap insurance. The water pump is likely to go at any time after 75k and didn't want to risk toasting the motor. Hope this helps.
  15. Zee, There is a guy on 6speedonline.com, that posted that he will help read and reset CEL's. CEL read and reset You might go there and PM him for assistance. Hope this helps.
  16. Ebay has them occasionally, here's one that is vinyl. Vinyl Pod Cover I had mine re-done along with the front dash and airbag from a local upholstery shop here in SoCal. Came out better than factory.
  17. Phillip, Where is the shop in LA? I am interested in doing the swap as well. Thanks,
  18. I have a 2000 C2 with Tip as well. It does exactly the same thing, I figured it was normal when it was cold.
  19. I have heard that Porsche has 8 year 80,000 mile warranty on their cats. You might ask the dealer.
  20. Hello, You can replace your pollen filter that is in the trunk. I had one of the center vents that was constantly drooping down and misdirecting the A/C. I took some velcro tape tape to fix the problem. You take the furry side and cut 1/2 inch strip off. Point the dropping vent all the way down and up the velcro on the exposed side. The you can roll the vent back to were you want it and it wont droop anymorre. Also the velcro will be hidden back behind the grill so nobody ever sees it.
  21. My 60k cost $1300, and included replacing a leaking heater valve. I live in Orange County and had the work done in Newport Beach by an independent. I was very satisfied with their work.
  22. Hello, I recently had the HID upgrade to my 00 C2 and I noticed after they finished that when I turn on the HID headlights that the radio receptiond dimminshes. I know its not the day time running lights, because they did this a week earlier and I did not have any problems. They have not replaced the Hi-beams with the halogen lighst yet. But this only occures when I use the HID lights. Did you fix your problem? Thanks, Han
