  1. Further update. Console out, no foreign objects, bushes all WD40ed and greased, still no great improvement. Finally took off the blue cable from the bottom of the gear shift and found the gear shift moved easily! Still think it is the cable but, as per suggestions above, I suppose I should check the trans end of the gear linkage next? Anyone got a photo of what I'm looking for please, and is it easy to access (v.cold up here at moment!) Thanks.
  2. You should be able to find the part number off of the PET catalog that is available on the Porsche website (under classic cars). If you are not a member I suggest you join the 928.org.uk mailing list, there is a lot of 928 expertise on there and parts sometimes too.
  3. Did you look here: http://www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm under "upgrades" then "P96/P96GT3" then "GT3 Mesh grill intake covers"?
  4. A couple of questions: Is the orange tool the one for a 97 Boxster 2.5 and also a 97 (presume 98 model year) 996 3.4? What is the part number please? Thanks a lot. PS Very useful thread in conjunction with the short shifter one currently running; my Boxster shift is very stiff laterally even after greasing so I'm thinking of replacing it with a short shift one.
  5. How much did the bushings cost and did you get any extras? I think I know the answer to the latter part of the question but I thought I'd ask anyway...!
  6. TP, I've seen the suggestion to cut the 986 surround to take a 996 console before. Have you seen this done? It looks like it might be tricky... I'd be interested in how it was done if anyone has done this, and what the margins of error are.
  7. I put in a 996 six channel amp when I did my rears... There are plenty of threads on the forum about the rear speaker install -- do a search.
  8. IIRC the front is a straight swop but the rear requires some bracketry which makes it a more expensive/longer job. Here is one that has been converted: http://www.jasmine-motorsport.co.uk/porsch...3%20boxster.htm If you get 911 & Porsche World there was an article in there as well a year or two ago.
  9. OK, I've had a quick look at this and squirted the likely moving parts with WD40. Still have a problem. Next step is to take the console out and have a closer look in a couple of weeks.
  10. I don't want to hijack the thread, but does your aerokit look like this one: http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/103554.htm? I'm trying to identify which model it is.
  11. Thanks for your suggestions: I'll have a look at the areas mentioned.
  12. The gearlever in my 97 ROW 986 (60,000 miles) is becoming increasingly stiff in the lateral direction of movement (left to right, i.e. mid way through shift from second to third; also when on the way to reverse). It has steadily got worse over the last year (so a progressive problem I believe). When I was at Ninemeister eighteen months ago getting my variocam solenoid replaced, the shop supervisor pointed out the gear cables to me and said they had a tendency to fray internally and eventually needed replacing. Is this my problem and how hard to change the cables? Anyone bought a pair before? Thanks.
  13. Hi Chris, I have the same mismatch problem. A 2003 top on a 1997 car, both artic silver. The top is darker, maybe with a yellow tinge almost. The body looks bleached in comparison. As you say though, I suspect only owners or buyers would notice!
  14. Is it possible to fit a newer type console in an older car? Part number is 996 641 984 77 70c, not sure of model year, as can't find it in the PET. Target car is a 98 996 or maybe 97 986. Thanks.
  15. Ask your OPC if there is another faceplate for the CDR22. IIRC they was a 0 degrees one for the 993 available from Porsche, but I may be mistaken.
  16. I think this model is for the 996/Boxster and most faceplates that come with it are designed to be viewed at an angle of 45 degrees downwards. If you are looking at it straight on the display just about disappears. Try viewing it from above and see if things are any better: if they are you need another faceplate or a different CD player... PS I know this from trying to fit one in a 944 oval dash and a 928. Couldn't see it in either but it worked in a old dash 944.
  17. Ron, I'm curious, has he had much business off the back of finding a solution? I'd be interested to know.
  18. ECP leeds branch do a discount for the 'Porsche Club Forum' (just ask for it, that's all). Don't know how much off the web price it'll be but if you find out let me know! If I find out before you I'll report back.
  19. As 0586slb says almost certainly the condenser(s): if you shine a torch in you will probably see a triangle of dark discolouration from one of the corners (probably lower left or right hand) where the coolant has leaked.
  20. Part number for this for a 996 and also 996 C4S/turbo, left and right sides please?
  21. Some of those kits have sealant in them so you need to take care. When the sealant hits moisture it forms a solid. This can seal your leak, but can also wreck your expansion valve or compressor. Systems that have been open to atmosphere have a risk of this, as compared to those that are still holding some pressure.
