  1. Hi Derek :) Contact WEVO 650-595-5772 Tracey will answer, you can ask her, if she does't have something on the shelf, she will pass you to Hayden :) They supplied 90% of the clutches used in all the old 996TT shootouts back in the day. They develop a LOT of parts for multiple PRO ALMS teams. B
  2. I meant to respond to this :) Can you point me to the threads were people lost IMS in M97 engines? Thanks! B
  3. I agree 100%. Everyone should do this and add the 3rd radiator. It is EXACTLY what we have been doing to ALL M96 based cars since 2000 or so. The engines have SOOO much plastic in them it is STUPID. Add some heat and you have brittle plastic.. We should create some t-shirts: Keep the heat down!! B
  4. Thanks RoadsterDoc :) I *thought* ALL the aluminum gears were riveted on ??? Maybe that was only in the race engines? Now I need to dig out some parts!! B
  5. Just so happens, the owner of Autozone is a Porsche guy through and through.. but I didn't know they carried some of our parts!! Interesting. Funny quick story: Autozone carries the European NON-AC belt for the 986-996  Now, I know full well that the belt *probably* fits 100 other cars, but my friends thought it was funny when I asked a counter clerk if they had it.. B
  6. Are you on Michelin slicks with 5+ years of pro-driving experience? If not.. install them and run them :) You will be fine. I cannot find pics right now to show you where to look for the cracks and it is not easy to descrive without a tub in front of us :( B
  7. Is the MAF a known NEW Bosch and not one of the rebuilt units? Take the second set of O2's out and move them to the front.. put the junk aftermarket ones up under the car and safety wire them to the tub. Locate some plugs for the headers. You do not need the second set. They just need to read clean air (basically) this will eliminate them from the equation. What we learned on the dyno after installing headers on the 2.5? The car sounds better and made no more power and actually lost torque  B
  8. The closest I'll be is Bryan College station in a few weeks (In Texas) for a PCA Club race :) B
  9. Thanks Mike :) and thanks for all the great writeups you have done. Were you ever contacted by Wayne Dempsey? (Pelican Parts owner?) He is/was writing a book about Boxster mods :) B
  10. Did they not "flake off" a sample from the actual car itself? I'll tell you now, it is nearly impossible to match paint that is 10 years old. It fades, and metallics are the hardest to match :( B
  11. The Renntech link took me back to the main page? Can you tell me what you used in the search to find it? I'm at a loss as to why I couldn't locate it for him? B
  12. I'm going to be in a shop doing Porsche work near the Meadowlands March 27-28-29. Is that close to you? I'm being flown in to build a race car that weekend. I'd like to go for a ride or drive it down the street. Did the dealer do the clutch? I'd have a hard time believing something was wrong with the tranny this early in its life (which is why Clutch came to mind first) Something as simple as forgetting to put high temp grease on the input shaft of the tranny, will cause the disc to hang up on the splines as you engage and disengage the clutch :( I'll know more tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm in San Diego tomorrow gutting yet a another Porsche for a race car build. B
  13. No :( It will be another few months before one is released. Right now.. they all drone :( B
  14. Joost, will you be attending the TWS event March 13-14-15? I'll be there with 15+ BoxsterSpec cars and would like to see the filter if at all possible. Stop tracking the car and yank the engine. If he grenades it, and the block becomes damaged, he is in for a world of hurt to the wallet. With just bearing damage right now (potentially) he can get away with a "freshen" for around 4k or so and update his IMS and pick up some HP/TQ at the same time with a good valve job. When you damage a cylinder, is when things get costly :( B
  15. Now that I think about it.. if you want to go back stock.. I have a lot of them laying around off of good running engines! Tell me were to send it! Oh.. and I have never seen one fail :) B
  16. I like to install the BoxsterS oil cooler. It is taller than the stock 2.5 and is just about the same price. It will come close to the intake hose, so just slide a piece of rubber fuel line "split" over one edge of the cooler. The intake hose will not touch, but it is VERY close. This is what we do on ALL of our 2.5L BoxsterSpec cars :) BoxsterS on the right stocker 2.5 on the left! B
  17. I'm glad to hear it :) Let me get a quote together for you on just the gears. I have not priced them in several months and will need to see were they are right now price wise. The price doesn't change for different ratio's. Now that I think about it, I'll get you a quote for building the tranny with gears also + shipping! Check back here Monday night our time, or Tuesday :) B
  18. Take him up on it :) Finding dealer techs who will deviate from the "service" work is difficult :) b
  19. Thank you sir :) I tracked down another buddy who writes diag software for Snap-On he assured me we could install the Porsche software on the Bosch unit :) Thanks for backing it up! B
  20. No loss :) My point with breakfast: You cant learn everything from forums. You have to "touch" things to gain knowledge, not just read about it. Unfortunately not all shop guy's/owners can type and most of them do not have time to visit the forums and I have yet to meet or speak with ANY Porsche owner who has cracked into his G96 box at home. It won't happen. Large presses and large long gear pullers are needed, so the trickle down information from the pro's will be slow. Relax. I'm sure you have a GREAT shop owner who takes care of your car. Ask him if has has rebuilt a G96. B
  21. OK.. I give up.. I searched: install top = 0 install boxster top = 0 Boxster top install = 0 Boxster top = 0 replace top = 0 You know what I came up with?? OUR current thread.. DOH!! I must be searching wrong.. here is a screen shot of what I came up with each time :( B
  22. From what I gather there seems to be a DIY on the site somewhere. Let me find it for you!! I will tell you this: I need to do an install soon on a BoxsterS in San Jose :) I'm deeply involved with the BoxsterSpec race series (we all pull our tops off) so you should be able to buy a top for under $300 used from one of the racers :) Stay with me, let me find the DIY for you. B
  23. More names.. (sorry cant help myself) Hung out BS'ing with Roger Graco yesterday over coffee for several hours :) Roger is a parts manager for Porsche Motorsports North America and has been for years. Who did you have coffee with yesterday morning? I eat/sleep/breathe this stuff 24/7 365. This is what I do for a living, and it is what all my friends do for a living. I'm more than certain you are a professional at your job (you wouldn't own a TT if you were not) Understand there are other professionals out there and we do communicate (without web forums) B
  24. Mr. V :) I need to ask you a few questions about your driving style before I recommend gearing solutions :) and here is why: 90% of the GT3 owners here in the USA have never experienced the rev limiter in any gear. This means they never experience 7800 and above RPM. I watch and see them at track events all around the USA (including AutoX's) rarely do they actually "use" the engine. My concern: are you using your engine? You should be bumping the rev limiter in the lower gears even at your short tracks or spirited runs. The engines were never really designed to do anything below 5k RPM  Let me know how you drive, I'd hate to point you down a certain path, when you may not be utilizing what you have to the fullest extent. B
