  1. You can buy the round plug used on the base Boxster. If you look around you may even find a free one from someone who has retrofitted the wiper dial, or put in a second cigarette lighter plug.
  2. There are 2 ebay sellers selling the same JTC stuff. Koniktoolcom in Tennessee, and Kinetikco in California. I bought from Koniktoolcom but it was shipped by Kinetikco, so I guess they are the same company. Here they are out of the case. Already found a good use for a few of them....
  3. Saw a set of removal tools on ebay that I had not seen before. 23 tools. Made by JTC in Twain, although I could not find it on their site. http://eng.jtc.com.tw/ I contacted JTC and the ebay seller but never got an application guide. Took a chance and bought the set for $70 plus $10.75 shipping. Turns out there is an application guide on the case lid. I expected it to be a set of 23 tools for Asian cars since it is made in Twain. Only 2 tools have listings for Honda and Toyota, but those 2 tools also have listings for European cars. The rest are listed for Euro cars, including Porsche/VW/Audi/Mercedes/BMW. Porsche uses connectors that are used on VW/Audi/Mercedes/BMW. Some of the tools do not look much different from the others. I have only just started to play around with them, so I will say at least half of the tools can be used on a Porsche. The quality is not bad, and I would say a bit better than Sir Tools.
  4. As RF said, it is usually the brake light switch. If you can't fix it yourself take it to RennShop in Santa Clara for Marvin to look at. Tell him I sent you. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?a...ODE=03&id=1 I was hanging around Marvin's shop on Friday watching him reseal a 1999 996 with140,000 miles. Marvin is meticious.
  5. After my last smog inspection I had 2 speed sensor faults. I thought it was because when the inspector backed the car off the rollers he spun the rear tires while the front tires were not moving. But now that I think about it must be due to the simple fact only the rear wheels were spinning during the test.
  6. There is a guy on the 986forum who has a Twain one as does his friend. He says no problems. He had a few extra he was selling, but not for a 2.5. I see them being sold on US and UK ebay. Just look for a seller who is selling sensors for all sorts of cars. I can usually spot them because the o-ring seal is a different color then Bosch. My attitude is that the Bosch made in Germany ones are crap anyway. Brad Roberts has the Bosch flavor. $195 for a 2.5. E-gas is $225.
  7. The green plate has a part number on it, and that part number is for the 5 speed. If you remove the plate then under the plate is a part number in the black plastic, and that part number is for a 6 speed Boxster or 996. On the 996/986 only the 5 speed Boxster has the green plate. Remove the plate and it is a 6 speed part. So the price for the part number on the green plate is actually for the entire shift housing, not the plate. No clue what it is for. I have asked mechanics and they don't know.
  8. There are ones being made in Tawain now. http://www.innoteqelec.com/
  9. See if you can find someone to spot weld/braze the stud back onto the sheet metal backing plate. If you want a used replacement instead, then check on the Boxster spec racing message boards. They have no need need for the roll bar padding as the roll bar is removed and a cage put in. Many years ago a local owner removed the black padding and put in grey. I have not seen him in years, or I would give you his contact info.
  10. There are 2 studs with what looks like threads. Those studs go into plastic bushings on the roll bar. Let's see your pictures.
  11. I see the Porsche logo in both pictures. Triangle with a P inside.
  12. You had 2 keys that would start the car. You opened up one, must be a remote key, to see what was inside. Now that one will not start the car like it did before. You can remove the circuit board/battery from the remote head and it will start the car. Only thing I can think of is you did something to the pill inside. Without that pill the car will not start.
  13. You must be from the UK. Turn the key on and then disconnect the battery.
  14. I was at Marvin's shop today and he had just replaced the oil separator on a 996. As a 986 owner I never paid much attention to this part on a 996. Thought they were the same. Nope. What caught my attention to the 996 separator is I saw what looked like dried up coolant on it, and the 2 extra ports. For some reason coolant is run through a 996 separator. And I guess that is why when you use the Motorsports version on a 986 the TSB says: " The two connections on the oil separator have no function in Boxster vehices and can remain open." About that expensive Kluber lube.
  15. What I do not get is the use of a metal gasket. Here are some Boxster pumps, same as a 996. Third pic is from FrayAdjacent.
  16. I was at a local independent shop today. The 1999 C2 with 140,000 miles was in for a clutch replacement. No, this was not the original clutch. Marvin also resealed the engine. When he was done I drew happy face on the back of the engine case.
  17. You cannot remove the gray connector. You need to remove the 2 or 3 connectors depending on the transmission specs. 2 connectors for the 6 speed and 3 for the tip.
  18. Oil fight. I would not put that Mobil Water in my lawn mower....
  19. Here is the windshield thread. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10360 No company is going to put in a new windshield for $270, parts and labor. Unless they are using Saran Wrap and duct tape....
  20. Moving the a/c display down to just above the bat wing has been going on for years. Search under "cupholderectomy." The wires are long enough to move it around. The question is, on your 2004 or a 2003 for that matter, what can you put in to replace the a/c display in the old location. This was asked 3 weeks ago. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...mp;#entry113364 The guy in the link had a problem with a storage bin in the old a/c position, but he said it looked like the two single DIN trim had been modified to a double DIN. What that means to me is that the cross bar was removed to create a double DIN space. In the pic you see the cross bar just above the numbers. So the question if you can put in a storage bin just above the radio, where the a/c display use to be, is still an open question. I have never seen a storage bin just above th radio. But whenever I say never someone figures out a way.
  21. This thread is so old that I am already on my 3rd windshield. This time I removed the trim. Then the guys cut out the old glass, cleaned up the frame, and glued in the new windshield. Pictures are my 1997 with windshield #3. Watching them working - it is not a difficult procedure. But experience sure helps. Plus, if they break the glass when putting it in then it is on their dime. Maybe I'll give it a go when it is time for windshield #4.
  22. It is the toggle switch on the right wth the 2 arrows that you use to change the station. Does not matter if you push the up or down arrow once the correct code is entered.
