  1. Maurice and Loren, Thanks for the information. I’ve cleared the CEL a few of times, before having a reader and the CEL would come back on. The latest time it came back on the very next day whereas before it took a few months and then a few weeks. I thought it was related to the K & N CAI because of all the reports of CEL associated with the mod. Do either of you know the equivalent Bosch part number and an internet supplier? Thanks again and have a great day. Lee :renntech:
  2. CEL came on, so I hooked up my Durametric reader and received the codes P1275 & P1276. I’m assuming that aging sensors need to be replaced. I didn’t realize O2 sensor were wear items. My question is do I need to replace all of them or just the two behind the cats. I have a MY99 996 C2 6 speed.
  3. That’s a loaded question! Use the search feature i.e. 996 reliability, engine failure, 996 RMS etc… There is a lot of information and opinions out there. You may want to visit Rennlist and do the same search, it get even a hotter there if you know what I mean. I wouldn’t let that stop me from buying a 996 even though I’m one of the few or many, depending on who you ask, that has had premature engine failure.
  4. Just letting the “engine” idle doesn’t warm-up the “car” it needs to be driven to bring all the systems up to operating temp. I’ve also read, and it makes since to me, that at idle the RPMs are too low for good circulation of the motor oil. So I start my car put on my seat belt and drive. To be safe I keep the RPMs below 4000 until my temp gauge reads normal after that it’s good to bring the RPMs to about 7300 at least once or twice a day. :drive:
  5. When I had my clutch replaced it was night and day difference; the new clutch was much easier to press.
  6. You can buy a replacement wheel from your Porsche dealer or on e-bay or from an online company such as Wheel Enhancement. I just installed some new Michelin Pilot Sport PS2; 235 on the front and 295 on the rear on the same size wheels and I have no fitment issues. Good luck.
  7. For a list of approved oils do a search for “Approved Oil.” Mobil One 0W 40 is the factor fill but there are many on the list. You may want to post the same question on Rennlist as there are some very knowledgeable enthusiasts on that site. Good luck.
  8. Either is a great car, no doubt. If I had to choose I would pick the C4S though I would rather the rear wheel drive over 4 wheel drive.
  9. Check out the link below. Good price and Porsche OEM. http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant..._Code=POTE996IN
  10. Chuck, What a drag. I’m so sorry to hear about your car but I’m glad that you weren’t injured. A TT will be good therapy. Good luck.
  11. This feature must be akin to the Sky Hook we sent newbie to get at the ship yard.
  12. Loren, Thanks for the quick reply. Yes it was a quite a jolt. I jack up the car and inspected it as best I could. The only visible damage was to the under body cover, a small piece in front of the rear tire broke off. Do you have any instruction on replacing it or is this something best left to professionals? Any special tools needed? Thanks again. :renntech: Lee
  13. Just my luck; I ran over some road debris on the I10. Again! :cursing: I’m don’t know what it was but it was like I ran over a ramp and both tire on the right side left the pavement and when it touched down the passenger side side airbag deployed. I couldn’t find any other damaged. I guess I’m lucky in that respect. Anyone know how much this part cost and if this a DIY project?
  14. Check out the following links. http://www.tirerack.com/index.jsp http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp http://www.1010tires.com/TireSizeCalculato...p?action=submit Good luck, Lee
  15. I have 99 996 C2 manual with memory seats and I’ve read the owners manual but, I never seen anything on the mirrors tilting when putting the car in reverse. Please elaborate. Thanks,
  16. I’ve had the CAI on since getting the new engine. I haven’t removed it since. The CEL has come on three times before but I didn’t have the scan tool before.
  17. My CEL came on; on my way home this afternoon. I recently bought the ODB-2 scan tool manufactured by Alex C. Peper; so I put it to use. I received the following codes P1123 Oxygen Sensing Adaptation Area 1 (Cylinders 1 - 3) - Lean Threshold and P0102 Mass Air Flow Sensor - Below Lower Limit. My questions are what can cause these codes and what if any corrective action is needed. I have a 99 996 C2 with a “new remanufactured engine” with less than 12,000 miles on it. The only engine mods I have are GHL sport mufflers and a K & N CAI. :renntech:
  18. Congrats! Sounds like my story. I too fell in love with the Porsche 911 when I was 16 and now almost 30 years later I final have one. I think you made a good deal getting a car with only 17k and CPO with some nice options for 40.5k. Good luck.
  19. Your tires at 275mm are not quite 11 in. wide. Stock tire size for 19 x 11 is 295/30.
  20. I’m somewhat surprised that there isn’t definitive proof one way or the other. Can’t these mods be scientifically analyzed to determine if they will add performance?
  21. Since the spoiler is opening and closing but not at the usual speeds it makes since that it’s programmed different. You would think that it could be re-programmed to factory setting: maybe something to consider whenever you bring it in for service. I wouldn’t worry about it. The coolant leak is either the coolant tank itself or the cap. There is a DIY on replacing the tank if you are so inclined or have your mechanic do it. I need to replace mine shortly after I bought my car and it cost me over $900 at the Porsche dealer. If I had to do it all over again I would do it myself. Do a search on “coolant tank cap” for the upgraded part number. Good luck.
  22. There is a TSB for the installation of the cup holder. Only contributing member have access to this section; well worth the price of membership IMO. Good luck.
  23. As suggested above if you follow the DIY and bed in the pads your brakes will work great and shouldn’t squeal. I would use OEM pads. The cost difference between the bargain pads and OEM isn’t much IMO. Check the thickness of the rotors and make sure there aren’t any cracks from hole to hole or to the edge. Minimum thickness is 26 mm for the front and 22 mm for the rear.
  24. I do like the wheels on #2 better but I would go with #1. The paint on the front bumper cover on #2 doesn’t match. Why? If it was repainted because of minor damage or just because of chips no need to worry but I would want the paint to match. The 01 has the three spoke stirring wheels (a lot of people prefer the three spoke), cup holder and it looks like a painted center console.
