  1. My insurance company (USAA) waves the deductible for repairs vs replacements. And they set-up an in-my-garage replacement for $100.00 for wife's Grand Cherokee a few years ago. A small crack or star can expand dramatically. Especially when temp changes significantly. That is what happened to the Jeep. Small star in morning, spread to :censored: huge crack overnite as temp dropped. Hope you repair holds! But you might want a pro to look at it.
  2. Try AutoAnything. Lotta brands. http://www.autoanything.com/floor-mats/20A10011A1.aspx
  3. Here's a place to start if you have not been there already. http://www.radardetector.net/forums/ Light is not regulated by the FCC, so jamming lidar is generally not against the law. Some states ban any warning device, however. All radar/lidar combo detectors mostly inform you that it is too late to brake cuz you've been lased. There are light jammers that are said to work. They do need to be mounted low. And remember the laser user wants to aim at a flat surface, so get rid of the PORSCHE plate the dealer gave you. And tilt your state plate up or down if you have one.
  4. Read the M96 article in December's Excellence by the late great Jim Pasha. Jake Raby (a contributor) has long been known in the Type IV/914-4 world. He and some others re-engineer the M96 to avoid RMS, IMS and PMS problems while rebuilding to better'n original. http://986forum.com/forums/showthread.php?...p;highlight=M96 And Motor Meister has a terrific rep, reportedly doing shoddy work and using used parts. No personal knowledge, but I checked them out a few years ago.
  5. Judging from some pm comments I realized my use of the word "scanned" could be taken to mean electronically scanned. I meant I had breezed thru a few volumes to get a feel for the readability and diagram clarity. Regret any confusion. PS You can travel with the Bentley. 15 Vol factory version requires a motor home.
  6. The aspect ratio is the key. Wider the tire, the lower the aspect ratio must be. Tire Rack has a calculator. As in a 185/70 would plus up to 205/60 to maybe 255/50 etc.
  7. I agree completely with seafeye. I own both manuals. Bentley by my desk for quick ref on easy things, factory manuals in my shop. Have scanned some volumes but not had to use the factory manual yet. But it is like a fire extinguisher - best when not used too often.
  8. I agree about the roofline - mostly from the rear quarter view. But otherwise I think it trumps the Maseratis, Jaguars and Aston Martins. Mercedes is not even close. The front, rear, side and front quarter views are beautiful to my eye. Now even Lamborghini appears to have a 4-door in the planning. A 4-door Lambo!?? I'd have been as surprised about Porsche 10 years ago. So now we have the Cayenne. I think the four door GT has a market that Porsche can penetrate. No offense to Cayenne owners, but a 4-door sports sedan fits better than even an outstanding SUV. I now believe that diversity is better than a hostile takeover. Which was a real fear in the early 90s. Yes, I admire Ferrari's pure sports attitude, but Porsche's bidness model is different from Ferrari's. If sedans and SUVs fund the continuation of sports cars, I'm all for them. And if economy models are required, I hope they put the soul of the 986/987 into them. And a new 914 would be great!!
  9. It is not like this is new to Porsche engines. Timing change tensioner failure was all too common. I still thank God I never had a total failure at high rpm. I really hate the sound of colliding pistons and valves. Fortunately the chain rattle alerted me three times. Once in my first (new) 914-6 and twice in my 70 2.5 911S. Then there were the exploding airboxes. Really exciting and rarely gave a signal that it was about to grenade. The plug fouling problem in early cars was small taters in comparison and was finally solved with CD ignition.
  10. Wife's X5 has factory Homelink mirror wired for ignition on only. I hate having to start it in the garage to run the door down (or vice versa on entry). So I use the wall switch. I wired my concealed remote for always hot to a Targa top switch. And hardwired the radar detector for ignition on so I do not have to manually turn it on and off.
  11. The 73 2.0 is particularly valued, I guess you know. Keep it fer shure. And the 911!
  12. There is one catch in NC. Greater than 15 mph over the limit reduces your options or your lawyer's. With 15 or less they easily negotiate down to equipment failure and pay a reduced fine that generally does not go on you record. And cop does not have to appear in court. About a year ago I got busted for 70 in a 55 near Whiteville, NC. I was tail-end charlie in a long line of 70 mph-ers, but driving a rental with PA tags. Had a dozen offers from local lawyers by the time I got home to the coast in 3 days. By the way this 55 zone on US 74/76 is 4 lane divided hiway, extremely wide open, and boring as hell. Picked lawyer that promised a reduced charge and for $200 he said he'd cover the fine and take his fee out of the remainder.
  13. I don't have PCM but I'd bet you can run the wire over, or under or behind it.
  14. I have black mats with my Savanna interior, and they really break up the sea of beige. Have seen black mats on grey interior and thought it looked great. Also have seen dark blue mats in light interior and liked that on dark blue cars. Performance Products has periodic sales, but not sure about Lloyds mats. They have the "deal of the week." Also maybe Pelican Parts.
  15. I don't know about the 996 top rack, but the 986 instructions were not all that great. Visualize the narrower piece with the slots for the front of the top's locking devices. This piece will be at the bottom when assembled. The wider bar has holes for the back of the top where the spin locks secure it behind each seat. This will be the top of the assembled rack. The other bar connects the two bars at a 90 degree angle to the middle of each. So when the two wall mounts that look like hose clamps are screwed into a wall stud (very important) the rack will look like a giant T with a _ under it. The top will hag with the rear window pointed at the ceiling. Hope the 996 rack is similar or I've wasted your time. Good luck. :)
  16. I checked the Bentley manual and did not see anything helpful either.
  17. A number of folks have had problems with oil contaminating the MAF. Usually after re-oiling the K&Ns. Try cleaning the MAF and wrap the filters in newspaper to absorb any excess oil.
  18. Suncoast has the kit for $16.95. http://e-partssales.com/Merchant2/merchant...y_Code=POTEBXIN
  19. I did my RX-65 wired remote the same way as Eric. RotoZipped a mounting hole in a blank lower console batwing from Suncoast @ $6.95. V1 remote looks too big, but maybe? By the way, initial cuts with Roto blade are okay. Change to drum sander for fine work. With patience you can get a clean press fit.
  20. I recently added the Ultimate Pedals with the heel plate extension. Not much practice yet, tho. My biggest problem is getting the blip right. The engine winds down soooo slowly compared to my 914-6.
  21. I think this will help. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=10440
  22. Are you talking about the spin locks that the spears on the rear of the top fit into?
  23. Interesting that the Boxster concept car had low mounted intakes. At least one tuner mounted the intakes low. I'll be watching this thread closely because I'm really interested in the Kokelns.
  24. I believe he removed the decals the easy way. By breaking the whole cover off. And I think Suncoast sells the Euro version w/o the warning decal.
  25. Gemballa has a spoiler. I could not tell if it goes up/down or is fixed. I didn't care enuf to ask and was frustrated the pics were not definitive. And some links were broken. Oops, just noticed you said 987. I wondered why a 986 item was posted under 987.
