  1. That is the exact info I was looking for. Thanks!
  2. Thanks Jeff. That was something quick and easy I could do. I changed it to the PTX. Other thoughts?
  3. My 2005 997, the 1-2 shift has been notchy over my 2 years of ownership. It is not terrible, but not as smooth as a previous 993, 996, and clearly not in the zip code with an older Audi S4. I could live with it, but I would like it to shift better. I have researched this on several of the enthusiast’s forums and found a lot of chatter but little in the way of guidance for seriously improving the situation. The most common “fixes” include some combination of Mobilube PTX, stiffer engine mounts, and/or stiffer transmission mounts. There seems to be a huge debate as to actual ability to adjust the linkage. Some say that is the way to go and others have said there is no linkage adjustment. So, I am hoping that a technical forum can give some solid direction on how to approach this issue. Any and all thoughts are welcome.
  4. For several months, my mechanic and I have been chasing a random 0302 CEL code. The code always occurs within 2-3 minutes of startup after not driving for 6-7 days. It is only a 0302 with nothing else involved. Among other things we have tried is new plugs and coil packs (they were way over due and on my list to do) and a shop based intake clean. Yesterday another 0302 popped. My mechanic feels that it now must be a injector. Intuitively that makes sense to me. However his service rep says this is a massive job, taking 7-8 hours. Wayne Dempsey's book says it is a 3 hour job. So my questions are: 1.) Does it seem reasonable for the 0302 to be an injector? 2.) How long does it take to do all 6 injectors? Or are injectors pretty bullet proof and I should just change out cylinder 2? THANKS!
  5. After selling my 996 semi-track car about 15 months ago, I am back to RennTech with a really nice 2005 997. A family member had to have a new M4 and sold his 997 to me at a really good price. So I sold my 1980 911SC and am a full time water pumper now. This was a very quick purchase and I had little time to really get acquainted with the car. Here is my question: Was TPMS an option on the '05 997? From what I can tell, it was an option in '06 and then standard in '07. Is this correct? Thanks.
  6. Guys a friend of mine is looking a 2005 997. We are struggling to determine if the VIN is/was part of the lawsuit. What we really want to know which IMS it has. The VIN is WP0AA29995S716387. Any and all help is appreciated.
  7. Excellent comments Jeff, thanks. If one were to buy into the concept of the DOF, then it seems to me that the manufacturer needs to take the step of specifying the oil source and if said source may contain dirty oil, a secondary oil filter should be engineered and include. At least that is what this IT geek thinks. :)
  8. I tried a search on this forum with no luck, so pardon me if already discussed, Just ran across the tuneRS Direct Oil Feed product for the IMS on Pelican Off Topic of all places! Be that as t may, anyone have any experience? The concept makes sense to me and the price is reasonable. http://tunersmotorsports.com/?page_id=103 I have the non-changable IMS and this is the only thing short of Jake's Guardian that may be helpful.
  9. Have you actually bought the new tires yet? If "NO" then don't. I have had them on 2 cars over the last 3 years and they are by far the loudest tire I have owned. And a friend had them on a E46 330i and same problem.
  10. I know my following question is off on a tangent, but if you were to DE a 996, what oil would you use?
  11. Thanks guys. Much appreciated. I have been under that impression for several years. But i asked because reading other forums, "experts" were saying things to the contrary.
  12. I am not sure if this is the correct forum for this question, so moderators please feel free to move as needed. When reading forums and looking at For Sale ads for our 996’s, it is not unusual to see a car with a replacement engine. I am interested in understanding exactly what a “factory crate motor” is. Using my car as an example, it is a 1999 with a factory replacement built in December, 2005. How, if at all, does it differ from the original motor? Did it get any of the changes / improvements implemented in the M96 motor over the years? Thanks in advance.
  13. Updated link to the product discussed in above link: http://www.steelerubber.com/search?q=30-0308-99#master-number-for-extrusion-30-0308-99
  14. I ran Bridgestone RE-960's on my 993. For day in, day out use, they were terrific. That said, there was an immediate and noticable drop off in performance (turn in, mostly). If I went back to an All Season tire again, It would be these tires. FWIW, I have Michelin Pilot Sport A/S on my BMW 530 and on a former M3. Very noisey tire. On the 530, they are so bad with less than 10K miles I am considering replacing them. Also, the Conti's I have had wear like iron, but they are even more noisey than the Michelin's as they start to get a few miles on them. YMMV
  15. I have used both Bridgestone RE-11's and Hankook R-S3's. The Bridgestone's are probably a better tire but about 20% more in cost.
  16. I have an SC and a 996, so that should be close enough. As a DD, the answer is pretty simple. Get a 996. Out-freaking-standing car. It is not an air cooled Porsche but in every single measurable it is a better car.
  17. I had to replace mine last fall. A new one from Pelican is reasonable in price, around $470, as I remember. The new one works great and I would not mess with success. Go OEM.
  18. Back to the OP's original question for a second, are the end links he is asking about another name for the drop links? Thanks.
  19. I think many of us have similar issues. If you replace the ampliflier, please post with your results. Thanks.
  20. Perhaps a silly question, but unless you are going to the track, why would alignment spec's be different for coilovers than a stock suspension? I have PSS9's and plan on an alignment next week, so this thread is very timely. Thanks!
  21. FWIW, I ended up getting a rebuilt compressor with clutch from Pelican for about $500. That seemed the best and safest alternative. I go back to the track in late April, so I will be interested to see if that had any impact..
  22. Excellent news. Did you ask them about the cylinders as Logray suggested? How about adding the parts he listed. Thanks!
