  1. Superb tip JFP. Your reputation will no suffer and the same for Ahsai and Perry in VA. Good stuff guys and thanks!
  2. Merci Simon! I did my pass. door latch this weekend and replaced the speaker (rusted and broken internal wire) and board holding it, plus the liner between the panel, speaker board and the door metal. I got the liner (vapor barrier) from an Independant (indy as often referred to by the Renntechers) dealer in Vancouver. It costs me $90. but it is well worth it. It shapes beautifully to all of the nooks and crannies of the door and provides superb insulation from outside noise. Made by Sofitec, a french company. The old liner was all broken up and totally unusable: Someone had been there before me.Now I have a properly working window (goes down by a couple of cms when I touch the door handle and goes up in its own slot by the same amount when I close the door), interior lights come on when I open that door and, finally an alarm system that does not beep twice at me when I unlock the car. The fact that the car blinked twice when you lock it and once when you unlock it was a nice surprise to me yesterday, since that door latch had not been working fully or properly since I bought the car last April.C'est l'fun quand ça marche, n'est-ce pas mon ami (Great, when things work the way they should, my friend)!? Salut!MartinPS If anyone wants more info, I took a few pictures of old and new latch, door work area and microchip involved, which appeared to be not broken, but well worn out from rubbing on the latch internal cam.
  3. Just went through this thread in its entirety for the 1st time! It read like a mystery novel! Superb outcome as a result of your patience and excellent pro-active coaching/assistance from savvy folks willing to pass on their extensive knowledge/experience. Impressive group of positive folks at renntech, I must say! Thank you for the lessons learned throughout as well! Cheers!
  4. Garwood74: Félicitations pour ta besogne d'AOS, Simon! Oui et non à ta question! My pleasure to tell you more some other times. On such a cold day like today in Montréal, it is nice to live on the rainy West Coast (+5C today). Back to the AOS, if you can take the time to explain a bit more on the approach you took to do this job, it would benefit a few of us in the near future. As my C2 is approaching 90K miles (143k kms at this time), I'm pretty sure it is still the original AOS. The fact that my drive-to-work commute is not very long, likely doesn't help either on the AOS department. So far so good, though! At the present time, I'm dealing with a pass. inner door latch replacement (window not coming down and interior lights not coming on when pass. door open) and a speaker board that is falling apart due to a vapour barrier (liner between door metal & door panel) that was badly damaged by a previous owner's not so brilliant work: board and speaker have to be replaced as well due to corrosion.fpb111: Many thanks for posting these pictures. This metropol blue goes well with Arctic Silver, I must say and rare to boot. Nice aerial shot of Teddy at the helm! Cheers!
  5. There is an interesting thread on Rennlist about this topic, titled: " Changing out those old motor mounts well worth it ... " in the 996 forum. The TT engine mount will fit a non-TT PCar and the last time I read the thread, the question was: Is the TT mount more rigid than the non-TT mount? Nobody had the courage of dissecting one yet, I believe. Some posters believed that there were no difference and that it was basically the same mount. My 2 Cdn cents!
  6. Along this topic line, I'm in the process of replacing an inner door latch in the pass. door of my 00 C2 Coupé. After I removed the door panel, I realized that someone had been there before me (I'm 4th owner) and basically tore apart the liner in many places and tried to put it back together with, you guessed it, gun tape: It didn't work so well!Since I can't re-use it, I ordered one from a Porsche Indie in Vancouver, BC. It will cost me $90 Cdn. Because the vapor barrier/liner was in such bad shape, water got in on the speaker board and that is not in great shape either in addition to speaker rusty screws. I could not find a replacement board anywhere so I'll have to make one up likely. Not sure what material!?Martin
  7. fpb111;A bit off this present topic but while we are waiting for Monsieur Garwood74 to fill us in on his repair, I have never seen a 'Metropol blue' interior with AS as you have. Would you mind sending us a picture of your interior if that's not too demanding? Is this a color that is only avail in a cab 911? Thanks very much!Garwood74;Comment ça va?Martin
  8. Loren; Radio is a Becker, Type 4462 Serial #: X5027838 Want to confirm what the previous owner left me on a small piece of paper in the User Manual. Need to fix my right window's inner door latch tomorrow. Thanks as always Loren! Martin
  9. What did you do with the Parking light right next to the Litronic headlight? It is a bayonet H6W bulb. Did you find a suitable LED bulb with a bayonet base to replace it? How about any worries that LEDs do not like heat very much, such as coming from the Litronics? Thanks!
  10. I used a Dremel multi-max vibrating semi-circular blade but initiated the cuts with a hack-saw first. Turned out the 4 I bought at Walmart were of terrible quality. Will work out but the 4 (cut those for a friend) I got at a sports store were real rubber and much better quality.
  11. I really have a hard time uploading that pic. Let me try again!
  12. Oops! Here is the 2nd pic I wanted you to see. Martin
  13. Creekman; From a hockey puck, I made a cut-out last night for my 996's jack point. I attached 2 pics to show you. I made the cut-out large enough so the whole puck stays up until I can center the jack under it. It works well! Hockeys pucks are everywhere here in Canada and you can get them for a buck at Walmart. Any community with a skating rink should have those avail even in Texas, I assume. Good luck with your MaxJax. Martin
  14. Great idea, Detoxx! Thanks for the tip; I will try that!Martin
  15. Amen to that! Go crazie, KrazieK, we are pulling for you!Martin
  16. The only IMSB Solution (Note capital S) I read about a couple of months ago on Rennlist was from Jake Raby (Flat6). I assume this is the Solution you guys are alluding to. He test drove it to Western Canada and back from Georgia in the Fall with great success, he reported. He was expecting the product to be available this Spring but, at first, the "Solution" would only be implemented in-situ in Georgia to make sure it was done right.I fint it interesting as well how the Casper Labs individual suddenly disappeared from this thread. He appeared to be very genuine ...
  17. Greg; I get from this letter that this effects both Boxster,s and 911,s built from 04 May 2001 to 21 Feb 2005. Do you read it that way?If so, this seems to leave out the early built 996s, ie, the 99s to the 01s inclusive. Could it be related to the fact that these early M96s were produced with the double row IMS bearings (longer lasting) and that this letter only relates to the M96 engines which feature a single row bearing? Thanks!Martin
  18. Would you mind telling us what the dealer found with your car? I hope for you it is good news! Thanks for posting the letter.
  19. Could you please post a copy of said letter to this thread to add credibility to your statement? Thank you!
  20. Oggie: You mean 1/2 minute vs 1/2 hour, right?Creekman: Informative thread, thank you!
  21. Silver would likely contrast better against your dark color. My 2 kronas!
  22. My 996 '00 C2 tail/rear spoiler makes this coffee grinder noise when opening or closing in a static check while being activated from the footwell toggle switch (After flight check). Although, this noise is still not audible by the cabin occupants at applicable highway speeds. The spoiler works as intended but its laborious movement feels like one or more bearing/gear(s) are getting tired or require some grease of some kinds: silicone, synthetic, not sure? and how/where to be applied, even more ignorant ... Any insight, from this august group, would be appreciated! Merci! Martin
