  1. Check you coolant and oil levels level. Make sure your front air intakes are clean of leaves, dirt, and stuff.
  2. I'm not a DIY kind of guy. I'm good a concours prep and would rather be driving, so I am willing to pay for all the other stuff. I bet your car will be running great when they get done with the AOS and cleaning. Good luck.

  5. Here's a quick test for you to determine if it is the AOS: Remove the oil fill cap. You should feel just the slightest amount of suction, and you will hear the idle change as you put your hand on and off the intake tube. If you feel a lot of suction or have trouble getting the cap off, then its likely the AOS.
  6. I'd guess AOS too. Have the shop check your waterpump, too for the whine.
  7. I think it should be noted here that a flashing CEL is a very severe warning. And should be treated different than just an illuminated CEL. A flashing CEL means get to the side of the road safely ASAP and turn off engine ASAP, and call the flatbed. You do not drive on a flashing CEL.
  8. Or buy a 987.2 in 2009 or newer. No IMS. DFI engine. Power and fuel economy.
  9. My guess is that #2 is your battery vent tube drain. Make sure the end is not clogged from the melting, and the clip reattaches to the wheel well area by sliding the edge in against the metal frame rail.
  10. I'd recommend you stretch your budget a little or hold off untill you can buy a 2006 Boxster/Boxster S. This gave Porsche an extra year to work out some of the bugs with the major redesign from the 986 to the 987 series. The 2006 usually has the larger bearing.

  12. Depending how strong your right calf muscle is, that's not aweful city MPG's. What's your highway MGP's? Post this question on Rennlist too. Ton's of 993 activity overthere. The P1411 code is most likely related to your SAI system. You need to research this more. Common concern on the 96-98 993's.
  13. Excellent. You are the kind of owner I'd want to purchase a used Porsche from.
  14. Run a high quality 5W40 (Motul 8100 Excess would be a great choice) or Mobil 5W50 full synthetic oil. Change it every 5,000 miles or at least yearly. Keep your water pump properly maintained, and change it out before it fails with another OE Porsche pump. Use Porsche coolant, and flush the system. Make sure your drive belt (serpt. belt) is maintained to the proper interval. Change your thermostst when you do the pump and coolant, since it's only a $40 part, while-you're-in-there. Make sure your front air intakes and radiators are clean & clear. This may require the bumper to be pulled (no BIG deal) to get proper access and cleaning. Be extra diligent with your oil levels and coolant levels.
  15. $240 for the dealership is not really that bad a price. I'd go there. Your time (80 minutes) is well worth the $115 delta. Do NOT go to the $69 place.
  16. Jeff, does oil selection and oil change interval contribute to this wear pattern?
  17. After you get it cleaned out, keep it clean with your leaf blower when you do your car washing.
  18. The OP's car is a 2008.......so I'd easily expect it to have north of 10,000 miles already (approx. 1,700/year average).

  20. Also Mobil 5W50 is Porsche approved and the factory fill in the GT2's.
