Power Steering

Recommended Posts

I have a MY00 986 with 59k and teh 60 service was preformed 2k ago:

Ok so on the drive the other night I notice a groan/whine. The sound was akin to going in revese but louder.

So iget home and pull into my parking spot and at this point the sound is so loud people were looking!

Then, no power steering at all! Done!

Does'nt seem weird that it would fail so soon? I mean I have owned 4 other Porsche and never once had this issuse.

Any thoughts? Please chim in with other things I should look at. Thanks

Yeah one thing comes to mind....Your PowerSteering Fluid level... If you drive it when nearly empty, you can burn out the pump, and ruin seals inside the rack and get air pockets inside.... Refill your fluid and turn the wheel back and forth half turns until it feels easy again and makes no noise.

Here is your parts list for the repair.

You will need to identify the parts you need. I suggest a discount parts dealer like Sunset Imports (Porsche Parts at Dealer Cost).

Does this seem like something I can do at home DIY? What would I need? Please help
