2003 Porsche 996 seat recall

Recommended Posts

"Bolrrowed" from another forum....

Did some research and found out Porsche is having a recall on seats. Here's a copy and link to the information;

Make : PORSCHE Model : 911 CARRERA Year : 2003

NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 04V070000 Recall Date : FEB 16, 2004

Component: SEATS

Potential Number Of Units Affected : 1805

Summary:

CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FITTED WITH FRONT SEAT BACKS, WHICH DO NOT MEET PORSCHE'S STRENGTH STANDARDS.

Consequence:

IN THE EVENT OF A VEHICLE CRASH, THE SEATS COULD TWIST, TILTING ON ONE SIDE TO THE REAR, POSSIBLY RESULTING IN PERSONAL INJURY TO THE VEHICLE OCCUPANT.

Remedy:

DEALERS WILL REPLACE BOTH THE FRONT SEATS. THE MANUFACTURER HAS NOT YET PROVIDED AN OWNER NOTIFICATION SCHEDULE FOR THIS CAMPAIGN. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT PORSCHE AT 1-800-545-8039.

Notes:

CUSTOMERS CAN ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION’S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-888-DASH-2-DOT (1-888-327-4236).

I imagine this is for the 986 too.

I went to Claridge's Porsche today and asked the service advisor -- Kimo, about this recall. He did not if there is any recall but he did called the PCNA (?). After input the VIN, it said there is no open recall on my '03 C4S.........

Do I need to do something or worry about this recall issue?

Is this for regular or sports seats?? If they have to replace exclusive seats with things like heating, crests, painted backs, stitching, etc...its gonna be a major PITA and will take forever...
