Safe to drive with PSM & ABS Warning Lights On?

Recommended Posts

The PSM and ABS warning lights have come on and stayed on on my UK spec 996 Carrera Coupe (AUG 03).

I have read through some of the previous topics on this subject so I think I have an idea what could be causing the problem. However, I can’t seem to find any advice on whether the car is safe to drive.

I assume that with the warning lights on then neither the ABS or PSM are functioning.

Any advice from safety experts out there???

Check to see if your brake lights come on. You may have a bad brake pedal light switch. This is a common issue.

Should be no problem...those are usually related to emissions. Now a flashing CEL...that may be a different story. Did you try disconnecting the battery to see if they go away?

Huh? ABS and PSM related to emissions? Silly me thought they stood for "Antilock brake system" and "Porsche stability management".

I guess a fiery crash would affect the overall emissions of the vehicle.

OK so you want to be a wise*ss or do you want some help? Unfortunately both ABS and PSM lights are catch-alls for a number of fault codes...For example, if you blow your MAF you will get ABS/PSM lights. The only way to know what is going on is to get the codes read or we can play land of a thousand guesses.
