Lighted Sun Visors

Recommended Posts

MY97 Boxster.

Came with regular (i.e., not lighted) sun visors.

Are all Boxsters "pre-wired" for lighted sun visors so that all that is needed are the actual lighted sun visors, or are there additional parts and/or wiring needed to make them light up?

Regards, Maurice.

I agree it is likely not too hard with the right parts.

The visor has no wires that go to it - all electrical contact is made through the metal clips when it is seated (see pic). You will need the clips with the connectors built in and then run +12 volts and ground to a switched connection (986.731.541.01 mounting plate - 2 each; and 999.919.120.09 oval head screw - 2 each). And the visors - 986.731.031.13.EBY Left visor (with light) in black and 986.731.032.13.EBY Right visor (with light) in black.

Be sure and take some pics and post them here for the next guy/gal.

juniinc & Loren:

Thanks for replies. I actually bought a pair of used visors (the complete assembly) and they look like they already have the electrical contacts where they get screwed in to the windshield frame.

Since I haven't yet taken the old ones off, I was actually wondering if the windshield frame part where they get screwed in already has electrical contacts built into it.

Otherwise, like Loren says, I will have to run a wire to a switched connection down each A pillar.

Regardless, I will be sure to take lots of photos to share for a simplified DIY, because I did not see anything like this on the site.

Regards, Maurice.
