drivers window on cab is acting up

Recommended Posts

Hi,

The drivers side window on my '02 cab has started acting up. When I open the door the window lowers the appropriate amount but instead of staying at the lowered position until the door is closed it immediately pops back up to the full up position.

Any ideas why this is happening?

Cheers,

Stan

I think you have one of two issues. First the window memory has gone bad. You can push the down button until the window is all the way down and then hold for 10 seconds and then do the same thing in the up position. Second, the regulator may be bad. You can do a search here and find more info.

Hi Will,

Thanks for the memory tip, I'll give that a try.

Stan:

I agree with Will as to the first possibility.

However, the second possibility is more likely to be a bad microswitch. There are three microswitches inside each door. To isolate the likely culprit, with the door open, trip the door latch (on the rear vertical face of the door) with a tool and observe the effect on the 1/2 inch drop and report back.

Hi Maurice,

I tried your suggestion with the latch when the door is open. The window opened the requisite 1/2" and stayed that way. I guess it's a micro switch? Do you have the part #?

Thanks for your help.

Stan

Stan:

There are three microswitches in each door:

Outer Door Handle Microswitch, list for about $31.00 each

996.613.125.00 (left door)

996.613.126.00 (right door)

Inner Door Handle Microswitch, list for about $35.00

99661312300 (L & R)

Your problem, I believe is in the third microswitch, which is located at the door lock assembly. Unfortunately, I don't think it's available as a separate part. I am not 100% sure though.

The Door Lock Assembly parts are listed as follows in the PET manual (for 2002 Cab):

8N1837015C $150

3B1837016P $181.00

It might be worth taking the door panel off to examine the door lock assembly and its microswitch to see if some part or connection has worked itself loose. I remember reading about a similar problem here about 4 months ago, but could not find the post for you.

Let us know how you make out.

Regards, Maurice.

Hi Maurice,

Thanks again for your help. I'll try taking off the door panel to check if something has come loose. If I need to replace the door lock assembly are the parts the same for cabs and coupes? You litsed 2 part numbers 8N... and 3B... can you tell me what each part is?

Regards,

Stan

Stan:

I'm not sure what the difference in the two parts is, they were both listed for the same item in the diagram, with no further explanation.

It may be that one is left side and the other is right side, as I have seen that one number difference (...015.. and ...016..) in other parts signify exactly that.

Your best bet is to give Sunset Imports a call, ask for Jeff (800) 346-0182 and get more reliable information from him. Sunset (board sponsor) also has excellent prices relative to your local dealer, and good service.

Regards, Maurice.

Stan:

I found the post I was looking for. It's at this link: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...c=16191&hl=

Read it and it will give you a lot of insight into what you are dealing with. Read the posts by "Glyn" and "PTEC" in that thread carefully. It takes a while to digest that info.

I'm sure you are going to get to the bottom of this.

Regards, Maurice.
