Car won't "stay" started issue

my car is under cpo warranty but just want to check to see if this is a known issue.

Usually after drive a car a while and I want to do a "warm" start, the car would fire up but RPM will drop to 0 and stall, I tried it about 5 starts and just will not "catch". I can however give it some gas then everything is fine... it's an 01 w/ 8000 miles

Also i feel sometimes when holding a rpm/speed the car seems to "hesitate" a bit like i backed off the throttle but i don't think i did..

any ideas?

What tool did you use?

Is it capable of viewing pending faults?

i used a OBD II reader...and came up with no codes...i don't think it's capable of viewing pending faults, it's from pepboys...

You need a real Porsche code reader....durametric, PST2 or PIWIS. I recommend the durametric, it will be well worth the investment.

I had a similar situation with my 99 996. It wasn't even giving a check engine light, but it wouldn't stay started. Turned out to be the mass airflow sensor. A local shop was able to diagnose with the Porsche code reader though.

Similar thing hapenned to mine when I fueled a fuel tank with 95 octane gas, instead of the spec'd 98 octane. It would stall when warm starting, despite it being a Tiptronic. Also some RPM fluctuation was noticeable, as you describe. After a proper 98 gas refuel, all went away.
