Shake and Shutter

Recommended Posts

So my boxster has two issues at speed. The first is a shake right in the seat of your pants, but I believe that to be the result of an obviously bent rim (**** NY roads), but that is soon to be fixed. Issue 2, is a shake/ shudder in the wheel. It happens at 72mph and then at 78, if I take her up to 80-85 no issues, the shake goes away. The tires have barely any miles on them. Any thoughts on what this very very annoying shake is?

Either disc run out or wheel balance

Lateral runout of the brake disc, max. -- 0.03 mm

Lateral runout of the wheel hub, max. -- 0.03 mm

Lateral runout of the brake disc when installed, max. -- 0.06 mm

You will need a dial gauge and a mount.

and have the wheels rebalanced when you check the discs. ;)

You can also check for disc run out by driving the car to a good speed then applying the brakes - disc run out will induce a wobble felt through the steering wheel, when you release the brakes it will significantly reduce
