1983 911SC Smog removal?

That is a tough one.

It will depend on where you live and their inspection rules.

If you remove the smog pump then you really need to remove the air injectors and plug ports in the heads too. Since it is a California car you likely also would want to replace the cat with a 50 state version or a straight pipe. I think Performance Products sells both.

Again, depending on your sates rules you might have to leave it "as is" unless it is unrepairable.

if that is your engine it is already gone isn't it? on the SC it was driven off the alternator pulley, I'm pretty sure

the turbo was driven off the oil scavange pump on the back of the cam

Loren is right you need to remove the pump and hoses and valves, you remove the air injectors in the heads and put brass plugs in their place

You are right, there is no smog pump on this engine, just the blower motor on the left side. If you want to remove emissions stuff, replace the exhaust and cat with SSI's and a sport exhaust, you will be pleased with the performance change.

Thanks everyone. I actually thought the blower was the smog pump. I have quite a bit about this car since. I do plan to eventually do the SSI heat exchangers.

and take a look at the fabspeed airbox...

to register or sell your car in CA you have to have a smog certificate, and that means you need to find a working air pump. this might take some time and diligent searching..
