[bOK[/b], Where do I post this topic?

Which is the best radar detector out there.

Not jammer, to get a good jammer it has to be self contained and not a feature of the detector.

So...just the detector.

Is it the Valentine One or the Escort 9500ix?

Or something else?

(I couldn't find a good heading under which to ask this question.)

Thanks!!

I have a V1 and I think it's a great little unit, like the arrows as well. The major complaint I have is the number of false alarms. If I were to replace this one, I would try the Escort, as I hear the gps technology works well to eliminate the false alarms.

My vote is for the Valentine-1. I've had mine for ten years and love it. I like it so much that I bought one for one of my employees for a Christmas gift and one for my daughter who drives like me - too fast!

The Valentine detects in front of you a behind you and tells you from which direction the threat may be located. It is very good about NOT detecting false threats. If my V-1 makes a sound, I'm off the throttle in a heartbeat.

I leave it attached to the windshield and turned on all the time. In the summer heat here in Texas the box gets too hot to touch from the sunlight but it has never failed to function. I concealed the power cord so there is no distracting cord hanging down from the windshield running into the cigarette lighter.

It's an expensive box at $400 but the cost of one ticket can pay for it when you consider the increase in your insurance premium.

If my V-1 ever breaks, I will replace it immediately with another.

I don't know about the Escort 9500ix. It very well me a comparable or even better box.

If you are concerned about the distance the V-1 can detect a threat, it will detect a radar transmission from miles away if there is nothing obstructing the signal.

Your major threats with any detector are "instant on radar" or Lasers aka Lidar. If your Laser detector detects a laser and you are going too fast you might as well get out your checkbook because you are probably caught.

Good luck with either purchase. Let us know what you decide on and how you like it.

I have both the 9500ix and the V1. I use the V1 for road trips and the Escort in town. With the GPS on the Escort, I know that when it goes off, it's for real. I completely tune it out knowing that when it goes off, it's for real. Knowing when and where to look works best with the V1 and I prefer it on road trips where I likely wont go 3 times (escort needs to see a false alert 3 times before it blocks it out).

I have about 4,000 miles of driving with my Escort 9500ix and love it. The false alarm feature is nice and it also has a rear facing sensor. You can also download red light camera locations, known speed trap locations and speed camera locations which is updated every two weeks or so on their website. The Escort has saved me on numerous occasions and the lack of arrows pointing to where the radar is irrelevant to me. The strength and pattern of the signal is a good indication whether the cop is stationary, moving toward me, or moving away. I hard wired the power cable into my fuse box with a $29 straight wire kit, no unsightly wires seen anywhere. I highly recommend it.

I don't have any experience with the V1 but I'm sure it is a quality unit. A lot of positive comments about it.

I just got this from Escort and there was not a review yet when I went to the site. Haven't checked Radar Roy.

It is semi-custom mount with laser shifter optional. You can get the sensor down low where lidar is typically aimed. And out of site. And a remote warning box.
