996 Custom Audio Installation

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Just wanted to share my new audio setup for my 996.

I was looking to have a custom box created for the cabriolet. Looked around the internet, and didn't really see anything I liked. There were a few foot well boxes and some that covered the back seats.

I still wanted the back seats to be functional (for small kids, and bags)

So I thought of this design, and I had Crankin' CarTunes in Toronto, bring it to life. They did a great job, the custom box fits perfectly in between the 2 back seats, and the seats are functional.

I really like the result. The box was perfect for two 8" sub(10" would not have fit), and it looks and sounds really nice.

I also upgraded all the factory speakers. Now the car sounds great with the top down, and even better with the top up.

If you want to see more pictures of the setup go to the link below

Looks great!

I also have a 996 cabriolet. I don't like too much bass, so the additional speakers are not for me, but I am interested in what speakers you replaced the originals with? Would you use the same speakers if you had to replace them again, or would you install another brand? If so, which speakers do you suggest?

Thanks,

Actually, I am not into super loud music either. the subs are 8", so it is perfect to provide the full sound, but not loud enough to drown out the other speakers and the highs.

I replaced them with whatever was on sale. Haha. I have 4 infinity 4" in the back and dash. Pioneer 5 1/4 in the doors. Sounds amazing.

There is no comparison to the original speakers. The original paper speakers are very poor in quality. Any speaker upgrade with even the factory dash will provide a nice improvement.

That sub enclosure is exactly what I want! How much did they charge you?

The whole system including the install was about $3000

They want to charge me 1500 for JUST the empty sub enclosure... Sounds high. Especially if you paid 3000 for the entire install.

Does the 3000 include the cost of the components, or just the installation itself?
