911 ignition switch attitude

I am unable to insert my ignition key until I hear an electrically induced "Click" at the switch...No amount of superstitious behaviors can rush my ignition switch into action...been lucky so far as I have only had to wait 1 to three minutes thus far...As I purchased the car used I don't know the history of the key...I have only one key and though the battery was replaced the remote fails to work. Lucky I'm retired, not in a hurry and don't rob banks...heh heh...

I was experiencing the usual electrical problems (lights, fan, defroster not working) due to the ignition switch. After a quick stop I went to start the car and it did not turn over. Lights on dash came on and battery indicated lots of juice. After switching the ignition switch as outlined in the link above - still the car would not start. Looking for suggestions on what to look for next.

(Car is 1999 996 tiptronic)

If the start motor is not activated during the start procedure, check the double functional brake light switch first, the Tiptronic switch is also a possibility but rather exceptional. If the start motor is activated and the engine will not run it could be anything as ignition system, fuel system, sensors etc. The help of a diagnostic tool is recommended in that case.

Hi Everyone:

Following up on this earlier post. To get rid of the switch's attitude (that is, not being able to insert the key until hearing the "click"), does one need to replace the switch or the entire ignition module. Not sure actually what is the difference. Obviously, I don't want a new key. But waiting for the "click" before I can insert the key is a little annoying.

I've read the DIY for swapping out the switch and I was also wondering if I need to disconnect the battery. Seems like people get all sorts of problems when re-connecting the battery.
