Please HELP me track down my coolant leak

Recommended Posts

I have a slow leak of coolant some where and it has been driving me ABSOLUTELY nuts.

I have a 2005 and it has the updated Aluminum pipes done last year. I took off the intake manifold already and dont see any signs of leaks from up top around the intake manifold area..

Oil is good and not milky. Think I found where it's landing but don't know where it's coming from.

This shot is from underneath the car looking straight up from the passenger side. . I see the white residue starting halfway on the fan shroud.

Does anyone have a diagram to show me what hoses/fittings are on the passenger side of the vehicle to look for? I dont think its a radiator because its on the fan shroud and i dont think the cayenne has known issues with that.. mine is a 2005 with only 64k miles... common sense is telling me a cracked hose/fitting someone on that side. I only see the residue starting half way down the fan shroud..

Have you inspected the water pump?

I sort of have but not entirely. I went ahead and ordered a new water pump and gasket to install anyways as preventive maint just in case that is the root cause. I pressurized the system to about 15psi but didnt see it drop. Does it only leak from water pump when running maybe?

  • 3 weeks later...

And the outcome was? (I hate it when people pose a problem, get answers, say they're going to do something to fix it and then are never seen again until the next thing breaks. It's by sharing the FIX that these forums are valuable..)

i apologize. i didnt mean to go MIA..

I went ahead and just changed out the water pump and gasket. I examined the old pump and it looked like a possibility of a leak, wasnt sure 100%.

I also went ahead and changed the (2) coolant T's/water hose on the back of the engine/firewall(2005 turbo with 65k miles). There was a hairline crack and I could also see coolant VERY slowly seeping away.

Knock on wood everthing seems to be okay now.

There is a DIY tutorial on this site. No pictures though because it is so hard to get to. Personally, even though I did my main coolant pipes and changed out the water pump and coolant tank, I have decided to let an independant dealer change these Ts out when they go.
