NOISY 997T ON START UP

Recommended Posts

Just had a major service including spark plugs of my 997Turbo at a Porsche dealer.

Since its been serviced on a cold start Ive noticed the engine is really rattly for about 2-3 seconds, then it settle down to normal.

The noise is like a mechanical rattle for a few seconds almost like it is running dry until oil gets there then it quietens to normal.

The car has done 35K, didn't do it prior to its service and the noise is it has to be said not a nice noise.

Is this something anybody has experience of and can help with?

The Porsche centre at the moment are stating they don't know how it could be linked to the service...

Thanks,

Maybe there is something wrong with the oil filter and/or the valve inside the filterhousing, and comes empty at a longer standstill. The filterhousing is mounted upside down on this type of engine.

Agreed. It shouldn't make that noise. I would take the car to another shop and have the oil level and filter looked at. There are two 'O' rings on a TT's oil filter. If they are not installed properly it can cause a problem...I wouldn't drive it until I had it looked at.. A Turbo engine is about $50k..

HiI have the exact same problem, my car wasn't even due a service, oil level was good, when the noise started, it just appears for 2 seconds on cold start.Anyway so I gave the car a oil+ filter change, using Oem filter and mobil1 0-40 oil, filled to the right level. The rattling noise still comes during start up.Any other ideas what it could be?

Just a thought here.....Easy solution. Since you just had it done at a dealer...Bring it back to them and let them figure it out? Also, if anyone has ever tried to change the plugs you will appreciate that you cannot check to see if they "are nice and tight" unless you have about 8 hours to kill and still will only be able to reach about 3 of them...

I would just take it back to the dealer....Good luck to you!

Hi

I have just had my 997.1 tt serviced and after the car was left standing for 5 days on the start up it sounded like there was no oil in it for 1-2 secs.

The dealer has used Castrol edge 10w-60 fully synthetic oil,the car has never made this sort of sound before it was serviced.

I know the oil is thick so I am a little confused as to what made the car sound like a sowing machine.
