Ive got a 2003 Cayenne S, there is no drive from cold, when it warms up a bit I get 5 & 6 gears, I think as there is no indication of the gear being used. Reverse is fine. Ive notices on the dashboard that when I start the engine in Park, the display shows P briefly and changes to D. I had a plug in test and nothing came up, I change the fluid. Any suggestions welcomed

Trev

there are a couple of magnets under the cover surrounding the stick that controls location of transmission for the dash. Not sure if they do anything else

What happens when you use the steering wheel controls ?

thanks for your help, the steering controls for the tipronic don't work, but ive just found a fault guide for the transmission and it if there is a problem with certain solenoids it can go into Limp mode and depending on the fault can put it into 5t. You would have thought a plug in would have registered this or a fault warning! Still reading the guide

I had a similar problem after leaking coolant down the engine block. It seems some of it got into the gear shift mechanism on the side of the transmission. I hosed down with water and left it a couple of days to dry out and it was fine.

I have also had a problem after a nickel managed to get inside the shifter.

Good luck with this

Steve

You'll need the correct scan tool to access codes for this transmission. If the dear selector is in park and the "D" is highlighted then there is an electrical fault and a code should be stored.

+1 for pknI had this exact same symptom just before my 2003 turbo dumped its coolant out the back of the engine.

It runs all over the transmission. Caused the trans to go into 5 and it wouldnt shift at all.

Check your coolant level when it's cold to be sure.

Cheers

DS
