Dension audio noisy when iphone is charging

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a dension unit in my 997 and have 2 issues (I believe that the unit is a few years old, it was installed by the previous owner):

1. If I connect my iphone 5 to the usb port, it does not charge but behaves as if the cable or connexion was not functioning properly switching from charging to unplugged constantly.

2. If I connect my iphone using a jack to aux cable and use the aux entry, the sound is great but as soon as I plug the phone into the car's 12v plug to charge, a horrible noise covers the music. The noise is high pitched and increase as the engine rpm increases

Any help would be great!!

Thank you,

Jonathan

As far as I am aware the iphone 5 connector is changed from previous iphones and even if you use a lead that converts it to USB the information presented at the USB to the Dension will not be what it expects or requires to function correctly. I advise not using it as you could be damaging your phone or the Dension unit. Anyone please feel free to shoot me down but as far as I can see the latest iphone to be supported by Dension is the iphone 4s. You may need to connect the 5 with BlueTooth to use it and charge from a 12v socket to USB charger only.

Jonathan (yes another one! )

There is a female old style plug to male new style plug adapter you can buy. Cheap if it works. It sounds to me like you have a ground loop problem which also means the Dension my not be wired correctly and may be grounded at too many points. Frankly, these modules are a pain in the neck. None of them provide seamless Apple integration. If you do not mind spending money on the car the permanent fix is to trash the PCM. Get a NAV TV MOST head unit replacement module and either an Alpine or Kenwood NAV unit and a double DIN installation kit made precisely for the 997. You will get great NAV, much better sound and seamless Apple integration including Pandora. Make sure you use an installer who is familiar with the NAV TV unit as it can be a little tricky to set up. Any high end automotive electronics installer should be familiar with the unit and 977s as the PCM is archaic and new owners are ditching them in droves. The last time I was down at the installer I use he had 2 997s apart at once.
