If the PSE is connected per factory/TSB instructions then it does indeed have a "quiet zone".

"If the PSE functions as intended, vacuum is present at the vacuum modulators at a speed of approx. 45 kmh / 28 mph to approx. 68 kmh / 42 mph."

I believe this is do to laws in a few European counties - most people in the US do the by pass and/or add a switch for full control of the PSE.

Loren,

Wow, was I misinformed on that, it really doesn't accomplish much then if you have only a 14 MPH window. I wonder how the system knows that? You

would think that it must have some RPM or speedometer input to be so precise. I guess any more baffling would hurt both the fuel mileage and

performance?

The factory system has a link that reads the ground speed from the car's electronics that controls a relay which overrides the vacuum controls.

The 14 MPH window is when PSE is not active. By default, it is active at all other speeds. Additionally, PSE doesn't add or detract from performance or mileage. It only provides a more throaty exhaust note when compared to the standard exhaust.

  • 2 weeks later...

The cutout on my car was VERY noticeable. So I disabled it by following instructions on a DIY that I found, possibly on this site, that only required the bending over of a contact on a relay in the driver footwell. If you don't hear the cut out, then its probably already been done on your car.
