A while ago, I had a Durametric scan on my 996 (1999), and during the Short Test I received fault codes 22 (Potentiometer right mirror Open circuit vertical) and 20 (Potentiometer right mirror Open circuit horizontal) under the Seat Memory section.
My question is, where are these potentiometers, if I wish to inspect them for either being worn out or having a bad connection? I can manually adjust the passenger mirror with the mirror controls, it's just that the passenger mirror doesn't work with seat memory. I'm taking a guess that the mirrors only have motors in them and these potentiometers are probably in the modules under the seat or in the door sill, but I'm not sure which, and where specifically. Also, are these potentiometers tiny little trim pots on a circuit board, or some kind of larger specialized potentiometer component with a part number? Or does one typically replace a larger module for a fault like this?
The closest thread I could find on the subject was this one: http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic/40724-seat-memory-function-issue/?hl=%2Bmirror+%2Bpotentiometer - but it appears his issue was fixed by plugging something back into a control module that was intentionally unplugged, and did not reference the specific potentiometers.
Any more specifics or even links to circuit/wiring diagrams for this area would be great. Thanks in advance.
I need your help with a couple of problems I’ve been having with my 2004 TT recently.
First Problem; I’ve noticed that occasionally I get ‘air suspension faulty, go to workshop’ type error message on the dash. When the error message appears there doesn’t seem to be any adverse affect and the vehicle drives like normal. Is it possible for me to find out what the error code is without putting the vehicle on to a diagnostics machine? Also are there any other items I should check?
Second problem; How do I activate the auto tilting mirrors when reversing the vehicle? When I purchased the vehicle the mirrors would automatically tile when I selected the reverse gear. However this function seems to have stopped working lately?
Any advice on the two matters listed above would be much appreciated.
Hello all, I've been browsing the forums and it seems I'm not the only one whose had problems with this mirror! Likely the extreme heat here in Singapore does not help matters.
My mirror suddenly seems to have moisture of some description inside - so it is very unsightly to look at. In reality I have no use for the auto dimming feature. I just want to have a nice mirror to look at again..... But I can't stomach the $900 bill at the dealership to replace this. I'd be happy to buy a replacement online and install myself.
During my browsing I have learned that the mirror might be shared with VW and Audi. Others have suggested the part is hard to come by. I've had one quote from a supplier in the UK at $600, which is still too much.
In short, can anyone point me to the right part to buy and where to buy it? If I can get a replacement with the auto dimming feature for less than $200 I'd be happy. Alternatively I don't need the auto dimming feature, so I'd be happy to replace with something that a) fits, b) looks nice (befitting a Porsche).
