Engine stand question

Recommended Posts

I see pictures of the watercooled engine mounted on regular engine stands without the special stand adapter everywhere. How safe is this to do? Having a hard time justifying the $500 various places charge for this adapter as its something I may use for 2 days or so.

What are your opinions?

I'm a gearhead, and only if I get really stumped will I take it in. For years I would rent tools, then I moved to Texas and lost all my tool contacts, so I started buying. Best idea I ever had! You can never have to many tools, my son and son-in-law will fight over them soon.

I get that, but it's $500 for this stand. $500 can buy me a new set of main bearings. Or a new set of rod bearings. Or a new....it buys a lot of parts I will need and use.

If I have to, I have to buy it. But if there are folks here that have mounted their engine fine (as I see in multiple pics) then why even spend that money?

The special adaptor is only needed if your engine stand head does not adjust enough to accommodate the smaller shape of the M96 bell housing.  Many engine stands will work just fine.
