Ok so Im looking at the TT and GT3 in a 997. Im really warming toward the GT3 albeit the TT has more grunt. To me its the appeal of having a road car thats from the same ilk as the supercup car. Im looking at a few pointers from people accross the board and there view. May I add no Im not going to track the car.....

Kensai,

I know that the GT3 RS is going to be great on the track. Have you seen anything on how it would be on the road? I have an '04 GT3 and it runs nice on the road and is strong on the track. I would be very interested in the GT3 RS if I could drive it on the weekends also.

Well, apart from the extra rigidity and uncomfort from the tighter suspensions, I expect it to be at least as good as the "normal" GT3. And the aggressive look (especially in orange!) will almost certainly make it a head-turner. Oh... and don't forget the sound! :)

After much hand wringing, I am buying both. My 997TT is a May Build, and I am No.3 of 4 on the wait list for a GT3 (I am hoping the allocation will come in August or September and it will be a Dec. 07 build, 2008 model). It just gets more expensive when you can't make decisions. My view is that these are very different cars. I can't really compare the two side by side. My recommendation is that you just need to try to decide what is most important, high revs in a true race car "with a license plate", or a luxury, super car with AWD that will take on most challengers. I just don't see how both cars can share the same body and chassis. Its amazing.

I had my RS sitting beside a beautiful dark blue TT in the Hilton Head showroom. Both cars are awesome. However, for tracking and all around fun, I prefer the normally aspirated engines. Besides, GT3's are more rare than TT's. I've had many people taking pics of my RS as I scoot around town. I really enjoy it. The TT reminds more me of a more refined Porsche, while a GT3 or RS tends to make me think of a hard-core track/muscle car. Decide what defines what you want and go for it.

I too am trying to decide on which of the two to buy. I currently have a 993 TT and love the performance except that the 4 wheel drive seems to take a little of the thrill out of the car. I drove a 997 TT and felt that it was incredibly fast and was effortless to drive fast but I wasn't sure if that was what I was looking for. In 89, I had a 911T (930) that really didn't perform well right out of the box. Porsche was in a little financial trouble at that time and it showed in some of the performance details of the Turbo. I had a lot of after market work done and ultimately it was a great car on both the track and street. Best of all was the fun-challenge of handling the rear wheel drive arrangement with all that power. I haven't driven a GT3 yet but it seems that it would be a real Porsche driving experience as opposed to the technological TT. All of the mechanics at my local Porsche dealership vote for the GT3 as their favorite car to drive and now with the adjustable suspension it is even comfortable on the street. I am about 90% sure that I am going with the GT3. I have an order that should be built in Dec. for Feb. delivery.

I went over that question time and time again and the deal breaker for me (I ordered the turbo) was no available rear seat option for the GT3. I have 2 neices that tag along with me on the weekends (10 and 13 years old) they would be furious at me for purchasing another Porsche without back seats. The next thing I thought about is how the GT3 would be driving around in a city full of potholes and constantly entering my sloped driveway. Both cars are low but the GT3 is lowered to a point that scraping up my driveway would be unavoidable. I have to go at an angle with my 997S or face the same consequences. Lastly, I do not track my cars and the older I get (will hit the big 50 next year) the more I appreciate a bit of comfort in a spors car. I truely beleive that the GT3 is much more direct, more fun to drive, and the sound of the exhaust is unbeatable. It wasn't an easy decision and I would never say never with regards to a future GT3 purchase!

..find a couple of club buddies with cars of your choice & go for a drive.

Requirement: Join local Porsche Chapter.

Other Notes: If you are inclined toward the GT3, after all is said and done, you may indeed wind up on the track yourself.

I now have had a GT3RS since July 07.

Great car, but... if you will not be tracking it, might the turbo might be a better choice?

The GT3 seems to be a phenominal car with a single mission, which does not include Sunday traffic, potholes, etc. That is to say on a wide open road you'll be in heaven going through the gears (but **well** beyond legal limits for it to feel right).

Anywhere else you'll be wondering what all that technology is about while idling (puttering?) around at legal speeds. - Gearing/power on the GT3 are truly optimized for sporting intentions...

I have not driven a turbo, but it is my understanding that it is more of a road car, so someone else should comment about that.

Perhaps a question of focus, which might be best answered by your own intentions.

Can you not get a TT drive at the dealer & find a buddy with a GT3 ?

PS - Did I forget to mention the nose scrapes into nearly every restaurant I've taken my wife?
