  1. dcdrechsel talked about the camshaft deviation chains IMHO, since it fulfils the proper functioning of this system in doubt, according to his previous posts.
  2. The pressure relief valve act normal, when hot: valve on full lift, when cold: valve down. The valve will remain down (with hot engine) if the pressure cap is leaking or in case of a relatively large leak elsewhere.
  3. Replace the coolant tank pressure cap with the latest update to start with, if you cant find a leak.
  4. It is not possible to activate bank 2 camshaft deviation on older cars with a diagnostic tool, you should do the test manually. Let the engine idle, remove the actuator connector and put 12V+ and ground from a spare battery on the 2 pins connector (actuator wire), you should have the same lumpy idle as on bank 1 now, which means both actuators are fine, if not, check the actuator bank 2. I would replace both adjuster chains and plastic chain guides actually after 116.000 miles. Now fix the crankshaft and the camshafts bank 1, to check the timing bank 1 with the special tools, rotate the crankshaft 360° and do the same on bank 2, adjust if necessary.
  5. If your car is equipped with an automatic downward tilting passenger outside mirror when in reverse, take the signal from there. If not, the reverse light switch wiring on top of the gearbox seems to be your nearest option.
  6. European heat range system (like Bosch) is upwards based: Bosch range 7 is heater than 6 and colder than 8. NGK used the opposite system: NGK range 6 is heater than 7 and colder than 5. So do not compare them in the same way.
  7. Probably the clutch pedal cant make the full stroke without help of the power assistance, or the floor carpet is stuck between the pedal and the car floor, the carpet possition is easier to check, unfortunately to check the assistance, the engine should be running. Let the engine idle for a couple of minutes till the clutch pedal act normal, shut off the ignition, operate the pedal approx. 7 - 10 times. If the pedal become noticeable harder earlier than 7 times, replace the spherical unit on top of the clutch slave cylinder (leaking membrane inside)
  8. The ends with a nut, the rest with plastic clips (pull off).
  9. The error could lie in the programming as well, is this ever checked with a PIWIS ?
  10. It's the best option you could take, after all IMHO.
  11. It's not a OEM part, find out where it is connected to, perhaps a radar detector wire or something.
  12. Are there no modifications done on the car concerning day time driving lights ?
  13. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?/topic/35337-cam-timing-i-goofed/ Take a look here, por986, it's pretty much the same engine.
  14. At the end of the lock cylinder should be a connection part which looks like an oar or a scull from a rowing boat, which should enter in to the slotted hole of the door lock, probably this is not the case or broken. I would check that first.
  15. It will rather be a M7 bit, as far as i can remember.
  16. I would find the reason way they always break, instead of always replacing, warranty or not, this situation is highly unusual IMHO.
  17. Take a better look, this bolts are not TORKX but 12 point star (triple square in your language ?), hope they are still in good condition.
  18. For the 997 Porsche recommends to replace the pressure plate and the disc together (as a unit), because an automatic, disc thickness, compensation system makes part of the pressure plate, in other words, the thickness of the disc must match with the pressure plate adjustment. I would have a talk again with my dealer.
  19. I would check the tires first, general condition, brand, dimensions, etc. and if possible, use the wheels of a similar car and do a test drive.
  20. Good chance that the pressure plate is cracked, you will need to build out the gearbox to have a better view on the problem.
  21. It does any harm if you go for a second opinion, anyway, Turbo and GT3 engines produce more timing related noises than Carrera M96-97 engines.
  22. The reason is the filling procedure, 40° Celsius. It's wiser, while you drain the TIP. from hot, to let cool down the gearbox till 40° C. than warming the TIP. up till 40° C. with lack of ATF.
  23. All 996 cars use a dual mass flywheel as a standard, if you can hear the rattling gears loudly, check the flywheel first. If you don't have a dual mass flywheel, as you stated, than is it rather normal.
  24. @ tanny02996, in your case it's only a program item, the control box can be programmed doors open at the same time with the trunk, or only the trunk open. ( ROW-Euro )
  25. Let check the comfort settings as well, who would ever bother.
