  1. After installing new sensors from tire rack-car would not recognize them- issue was the old sensors were in the trunk- soon as i removed old sensors all was fine.
  2. i fixed volume control issue on my 02 996 radio CR220 by pulling off the faceplate & cleaning conn w spray elec cleaner- reinstalled- no more volume issues- also used liquid plastic on knobs and it came out great.
  3. have fidelity on my 02 996 C2- bought car with 17k miles in 7/07 now has about 30k, bought Fidelity platinum from dealer shortly after buying car, fidelity paid for repairs at dealer for key remote not working, oil sender unit, RMS replacement. Warranty was $3800 for 6 yr 75k bought about 3 1/2 yrs ago. - hoping not to have to use it for IMS repair. Debating whether to get same extended coverage for wife's 07 boxster S that is coming out of warranty- but cost is very high $5k for 6 yr 100k- most likely will self insure and take a chance at that cost. Got quote from Sunset Porsche for Fidelity warranty on boxster (they sell out of state & have no sales tax). got dealer to come down significantly from their initial quote for coverage and they almost matched Sunset price (excluding sales tax).
  4. you can get the filters at good price at sunset porsche in oregon for most all gen porsche parts. Can get OEM type at pelican for cheaper- buy a few and keep a few xtras on hand- you may also want to get a LNE drain plug from pelican parts or from LN Engr directly-it doesn't strip like the stock one's do. Rhino ramps are only $20-25 at checker or others big box auto stores & easy to use. be sure your oil drain pan is big and holds a min of 3 gallons- bigger is better- i found the cheap plastic oil filter wrench wasn't able to do the job on my 1st try, many yrs ago as it distorted a bit and couldn't get the tight filter cover off. the metal works every time. Buy all this once and you can do oil changes every 5k miles for price of oil/filter
  5. read on some post about fix for knobs instead of buying new- get some black plastic dip from hardware store used to dip tools, etc. take off knobs and clean them well, make holder out of popsicle or other type stick and suspend knob just to end in plastic for a few seconds- let it dry- worked like a champ on my knobs.
  6. i had same thing happen- take off the entire piece that houses the two switches- there are one or two torx screws in the side of the housing by the seat- remove these and piece comes up and you can pop switch back in- found this easier than trying to fish the switch out and pull it up w/o removing the entire housing.
  7. i had RMS & IMS seal & new clutch done at dealer recently- I broke the shift cable rear clips few yrs back while installing a B&M trans mounted short shifter- I had cables zip tied to bracket on trans for some time- bought shift cable & 997 stock shifter from sunset and had dealer put these in while trans was out. Shifting is much smoother & 997 shifter seems tighter with less play than before & i believe a very slight bit shorter- not sure if this is due to 997 shifter, new cables that are properly attached and/or clutch.
  8. this may not be your issue but check to see that the bottom connection on the air pump is installed & pushed all the way in- my must not have been and it came off which caused CEL--It's difficult to see with just a casual look as it's on bottom of air pump- once i read CEL code and looked at line it was obvious- connected it and CEL gone.
  9. i used the B&M short shifter that attaches to the transmission end few yrs ago- no issues- i like it-- shortens throw and keeps stock shifter mechanism so throw is smooth. it was very cheap but don't think it's sold any longer as i've not seen it advertised.
  10. i just used a small switch from checker auto and installed it down by fuse panel cover- very easy- couldn't figure out which oem switch to use that didn't need relay also- keeps temps right on left of 0 in 180 even in traffic here in always 88degree honolulu.
  11. buy a new shock on right side- takes 10 seconds to install.
  12. I had 17" on my 02 996 C2. Got rid of these & bought stock sport technos rims 18 X 8 & 18 X 11 that were fitted with 235 and 295/30/18 PS2- They fit perfect on car no rubbing/issues- I have the X74 suspension so it's lower than stock height- -
  13. Thanks for the info- just couldn't tell from diagram and already put liner/tire back on - wanted to be be sure it was here before i pulled it off again. Mahalo for your help.
  14. Thanks RFM, I'm not quite sure where this drain button is or how to access it in front- can you give me a bit more info. Is this seen with the wheel liner off? or in another access area? i saw some wires and stuff tucked up by edge of front door when i had liner off but didn't want to start messing around there. Also see that there is small plastic lining by front door hinges that can be removed with few screws with front door open- wasn't sure if this was access or not.
  15. 02 996 coupe, cleaned out the 4 drains in front by battery but took off driver front tire and liner and could not find the sunroof drain anywhere. Didn't try rear drivers side yet. What am i missing?
  16. I'm in HI- Have 02 996 C2 Wanted to replace my stock 4 1/2 yr moll battery before it died. Costco has not had the correct size on shelf for many months at any store -(fitment code 10) & said they won't be getting any in. Went to Sams looking for size 48 battery- they carry Interstate Batteries here - had both size 91- & 93 but only 18 month free replacement and no vent tubes included. Went to Interstate distributor looking for size MTP 91 with 30 month free repl/84 mo warranty price was quoted $114 over phone for MTP 91 or 93- asked for discount and quoted $81 for 91. Came away with Interstate MTP H7 which is exact size and look as stock Moll battery 12.4 long; 6.89 w; 7.48 H- got it for $112 by asking- normal price $162. Spent a bit more but its a perfect fit.
  17. i put on the hard rubber motor mounts from carnewal recently when i bought the X-74 suspension- It feels a bit more solid though these are pricey.
  18. got a 02 996 C2 coupe 16,500 miles a few weeks ago. The factory warranty was up 6/06- debated about just taking my chances- looked at some ext warranty on line but many wouldn't sell in Hawaii with 911- went to dealer & bought only warranty they sell from JM&A. Got the exclusionary policy which looks to be comprehensive. We'll see when i need to use it. Thought it was good that i could get a warranty on a 5 yrs old car. It covers me for another 6 yrs and 72K more miles.. Car was NOT bought new from this dealer & i bought it from private party who did service it there. Price was a bit more than i wanted to spend-- ranged for 3 yrs 36K to 6 yr 72k at $2700 to $4,400. But everything is expensive in Hawaii. The 5 yr 60k mile seemed best price at $3,600- i opted for 6 yr figuring it would help me sell in 3 yrs if i decided to upgrade- It's transferrable & refundable (pro rata based on length & miles). I pay $3500 annually for homeowners ins in HI. We'll see what breaks, what is covered when time comes or if i should have listened to others and banked the $. Barry
  19. another radio code request for 02 996 CR 220 type 4362 ser # 25007542 24/99 thanks much
