  1. Ironically, I'm now having the exact same issue on my 99 Cab. I think it may be the microswitch. I'm not sure.
  2. You can build one with the following: 1) Untermianted J1962M OBDII cable, available from obd2cables.com 2) Honda connector PCSE20LB - $4.98 each, PCSE20FS - $3.54 each. Available from chriselectronics.com However, I failed twice at deciphering how to wire everything up, and my soldering skills are not good. Tholyoak is an expert at this stuff and can give you more detail.
  3. The water pressure on those touchless car washes are too high. I had one peel paint right off my front bumper. Mind you, my car is a a few years older, and I'm pretty certain that a cheap touch-up job had been done to the bumper, but why risk it?
  4. Have you thought about installing the Durametric software and fabbing some sort of cable to the OBD-II port, so that you have onboard diagnostics? That would be pretty sweet.
  5. I'm tackling this sometime in July after I get back from vacation. When I do it, I'll post a write up and video. I was quoted $188.99 for the seal (99653808507) from Sunset, but I haven't ordered it yet.
  6. Did you check into adjustable plugs? I was just redoing freeze plugs on a Ford block and found out that now they have both copper and rubber adjustable plugs that wrench out to size although they're about $40 a piece. I'm guessing there could be something similar for the camshaft.
  7. In my 99 C2 with the OBC showing an outside temperature of 107 yesterday in Houston stop and go traffic, I was at the outside right edge of the 0 in 180. I've never had mine go higher than that.
  8. I've got a 99 996 Cab. Can anyone suggest a good racing harness solution that I could easily take in and out of the car? If I want to participate in DE events with my top down, I have to have a harness for both myself and my passenger. I saw that Pelican Parts has some kind of Rennline brackets available. Anyone have photos of them bolted in? Ideally I'd like to be able to install the harnesses on a Friday night and be able to uninstall them Sunday night after the track events.
  9. I'm not sure where to get the software, but I have a PST2 question as well. I have the Notebook version of the PST2, but the the battery is long gone, the machine is very slow, and the screen is incredibly hard to read in daylight. Is it possible to use the cable and run the software on a modern notebook by creating a virtual machine using a Windows 3.1 emulator? My other question is, will it run if I just transplant the hard drive and cable into a new Bosch KTS system? I'm so worried this old Toshiba is going to die on me, and I'll lose my entire investment.
  10. I kept seeing people talking about having trouble getting the headlight out, especially regarding turning the 5mm allen socket, so I videoed it to try and show how it works when I changed a bulb last week. Hope this helps someone.
  11. I may give this a shot. My turbo twists are in serious need of some curb rash repair and repainting.
  12. I did this over the weekend, so I videotaped it. My apologies for the narration. I need to not drink beer while editing. Hope this helps somebody.
  13. The squealing is caused by metallic vibrations. It's something akin to the way you can rub your finger around the rim of a crystal glass and make it sing. The dampers on the back of the pads are supposed to stop that. You might need fresh ones.
  14. Are you trying to wire a USB port? I suggest just getting a 12v to usb adapter and wiring that in.
  15. I don't have a current photo, but I took a piece of aluminum from Ace hardware and put it between the upper and lower consoles. Then I put an accessory plug on the drivers side and hung a cup holder off the passenger side. Here's what it looked like early on. Now it's all painted black and has the cup holder. http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?s...&hl=jetexas
  16. I wonder if the bad valves are actually the secondary air/EGR valves. If they are, those parts are very easy to change out as well.
  17. Aside from the valve work, none of that stuff is hard. Most of the cost is labor, so if you want to take a stab at trying some of it yourself, you can really save a ton. You can get a set of Mintex pads and rotors and wear sensors for around $300 on ebay. There's great DIY instructions here. Changing them out doesn't require you to mess with the fluid, but I suggest after you change them, have it flushed by a brake shop because old fluid causes breakdown of the seals in your calipers. A rebuilt waterpump with a lifetime warranty is $150 at NAPA. It takes a couple hours to disassemble and reassemble things to get to it, but again, it's not hard. It just bolts up. O2 sensors are incredibly easy to change out. The serpentine belt is easy to change out. I really think you should search the DIY section to see if you want to attempt some of this because it would save you a ton of money. Generally shops have set labor hours for each task, so it all comes down to what the labor rate is at the shop. Porsche dealerships are usually on the high-end at about $150/hour while some independent shops may be as low as $70/hour.
  18. There was someone on here who actually had a problem with the oil coolers leaking. It resulted in oil in the coolant but no oil coolant in the oil. The oil was actually filling up her coolant tank though.
  19. thanks for the reply :) i used the hex and it just keeps turning and turning, i turned it for a good 5 minutes and nothing was even loose or popped out :( anyone know what i'm doing wrong? I had the same problem with mine. I had to pull and jiggle the headlight as I turned the socket. Also, your bolt may be rounded off, so you may need to try a smaller socket. When you put it back in, make sure the light is seated correctly on the bar that pops it out, so you won't have the same problem. just tired it :( no luck :( tired the 5 and 7mm both don't work only the 6, i can feel it turning and the rachet clicks but the headlight just stays still It should only take half a turn to pop it out if it's seated correctly. If the 6mm hex head is rounded but not small enough to fit a 5mm, you might see if there's a standard size in between them that would turn it.
  20. I'm going to guess dirty fuel injectors. It could also be dirty Mass Airflow Sensor or dirty throttle body as well.
  21. It varies from state to state depending on laws, but usually insurance only reimburses body work at something like $40 per hour. Sounds like the Porsche dealership wasn't willing to take that rate, and instead of refusing the work, they're going to charge you the difference.
