  1. Check your tool kit to make sure that someone didn't substitute a different jack before you toss that.
  2. "- Oil Cap is IMPOSSIBLE to remove while running." sympton of failed AOS. oil and coolant get close in AOS.
  3. Go to the link in #2 above. and look at it. In that link (the one referenced in post #2 above) Post #1 has pic of the cap, post #11 has pic of where to put it.
  4. http://seekpart24.co...0405?c=&at=9744 Looks like it is pretty common Bosch part Volvo uses the same bearing Also cross reference to http://66.46.21.101/...px?PART=6003LLJ
  5. The best one is the one that pulls the air from outside of the engine compartment, like the stock one. Try the "orange" cap mod. You will get the sound of aftermarket with the cooler air from outside of the engine compartment. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/397860-anyone-want-a-orange-cap.html
  6. Yes a Hardtop turns a cab into a coupe and your seat cushions become flotation devices. Not really but mine is like having two different cars. The hardtop is quieter and has a little more headroom.
  7. Many before you grasshopper: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/397860-anyone-want-a-orange-cap.html
  8. You can buy 4 batteries for $400 or two AGMs. Don't let the Porsche name scare you into buying commonly available parts from dealers. " ...So I pulled the key out of the ignition, tried again, and it worked...same thing each of the three times I've tried driving it since...is this the battery needing replacement, the start, or something else?" You might need a new ign switch (not uncommon). <$20 and relatively easy DIY NAPA 4A0905849B Or talk to your father same on many VWs.
  9. Silly question. Are you sure it is not the security lock lug bolt? (Needs "key" socket.)
  10. Try covering the windshield trim (outside) with masking or duct tape. Cover the windshield to trim joint around the driver side, so that the wind can't get under it, and go for a ride. If it is the trim vibrating this should change/quiet it until the tape gives up.
  11. There are some TSBs that may address that. Here is one, I searched the TSB list for "noise" 4/04 6416 Whistling Noise In The A-Pillar Area At High Speed Sep 27, 2004 New
  12. read these threads for some ideas http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/363703-fluid-leak-2.html http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/27236-leaking-fluid-from-behind-the-front-drivers-side-wheel.html http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/588648-windshield-washers-not-working-2.html
  13. Maybe the speed alarm? http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/556789-mph-limit-exceeded-warning-code-what.html Or maybe your wing is not working right. http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/467605-fixed-wing-alarm-at-speed-help.html Post #19 http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/632109-happy-birthday-to-me-2.html
  14. On the passenger's foot. Gently pull it back up with needle nose pliers. Then re-seat it in the hole. There is a thin groove on the rubber drain flange that the metal fits into.
  15. You don't say what year your 996 is. Early cars 99-01? have an opening? on the bottom of the brake booster that can get covered with water if the cowl drains are clogged. Water can then pool in the booster. If that happens water can be sucked into the engine through the vacuum line causing all kinds of mischief. A Rennlister had his engine hydro lock and destroy itself from this a couple of years ago. http://forums.rennli...ing-to-you.html
  16. The brushes come with the regulator. Tiptronic did not come with the sprag clutch on the alternator. If I were in need of the bearings I would get the # from the bearing and web search or go to my local bearing supplier for replacements. You can see the brushes on these regulators (All work on our alternators.)
  17. Read this thread http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/996-forum/694850-remote-suddenly-stopped-working-2.html
