  1. You need a better code reader...if the CEL came on there are codes to be read. Get the durametric...
  2. Kim is absolutely right...Stephan replaced my unit when I first got it....no problems since.
  3. Thanks much Loren. I ordered it from Sunset already. Didn't realize it was 2 piece.
  4. Loren, 2004 996TT Cab...I need a front passenger side wheel liner. You have a part number perhaps....TIA
  5. It is probably the microswitch...Try unplugging and plugging it in again (see the smarttop installation instructions). I had a stealer "calibrate" the top...don't think it did anything to be honest.
  6. Great advice! But I would spring for the Durametric....of course I have done a couple of mods and need that level of detail and resetting.
  7. you might add some security torx drivers.
  8. Are you kidding me? There is nothing special about the Porsche charger except you pay for the label...most maintainers work the same way....save the dough.
  9. Mine looked exactly like new...only an electrical test could tell. MAFs fail all the time...reasons are usually related to changing intake, filter, oily filter. Mine died as a result of using the V-flow. Since I went to the Sportec, I have not lost a MAF. Fried MAFs will throw codes (you will typically get ABS, PCM...then a CEL)
  10. There is no factory way to get an audible alert...if you do as tool pants suggests, the alert is telling you there is a fault in the alarm system. You can also press the lock button twice, but this disables the interior IR sensor. There is a product made by mods4cars that says it will do this.
  11. When were your plugs last changed? What plugs are you using? It could be the plugs...I can't believe they didn't change those when they changed the coil packs, but if it were the plugs you should have problems at more than just idle.
  12. You probably did not have a good connection through the OBD port.
  13. YES THEY DO!
  14. The problem is MOST....there just are not many options...h*ll there were none until Dension. I am quite happy with my dension unit.
  15. Remove the wing with the spanner wrench and make sure the 14mm bolts are installed properly. The spanner wrench can not tighten the wing. It is either in the locked or unlocked position.
  16. Welcome aboard Typically no. Of course you find differences, but usually folks will modify the tune and turbos to get quicker spoiling Parallel Yes some use a boost controller (e.g., greedy)....mostly those doing this are interested in drag racing. Max boost is a function of a number of internals including the fuel system. For example, the K16 turbos can handle about ~1.0 boost before they become inefficient. K24s can handle ~1.1-1.2...hybrids have additional capabilities. The ECU will TB shut down around 1.3. Those that are pushing the envelope boosting in excess of 1.3 have done extensive internals modification and are willing to rebuild their engine when it goes BANG. Good luck.
  17. For 18"....Yoko Neovas! I'v tried PS2s, MPSCs, Bridgestone S02s....Yokos are my favorite.
  18. You're kidding right. I sure hope so. Do you understand how your turbos work? Your turbos will not produce boost when revving the engine at a stop...watch your boost gage next time.
  19. I decided to keep mine stock....
  20. Since apparently you are not just looking at upsolute...call Kevin@ultimatemotorwerks
  21. I'm sorry, I was not meaning to be derogatory. My point is you can not conduct a survey with any legitimacy using your current poll. This is why I suggested you actually talk to a number of folks that work on these cars (not just the ONE shop you deal with). If you search on Rennlist and 6speed, you will find plenty of folks that have had problems with their DVs. Post #49 Bad DV another More with pics yet another
  22. That would not be symantics. If you want some real information, why don't you just ask some of the folks that do repairs (rather than owners). The DVs probably do not fail under warranty with stock systems (hence no concern from Porsche for warranty repairs). The problem is with modding (boosting 1.2 plus). This the stock DVs do not handle as well... I'm glad your friend runs his "race car" and is willing to redo the turbos...that of course is his choice. Most folks that actually have "race cars" rebuild their engines anyway so who cares what they run?
  23. DV's are not blow off valves (BOV).... So the deal is the stock DVs are fine for performance...the issue is that when they go the pieces go into the turbos...that can get expensive. My tuner has seen the effects of DVs disintegrating into the turbo (he builds and rebuilds turbos). So it is just not worth the chance.
  24. An NA 996...ah....no. Maybe some on a turbo, but minimal IMHO.
