  1. regardless of which you choose, go with a CPO car. The Merc is my least favorite.
  2. i've always felt the 911's steering feels light (when traveling in a straight line at higher speeds). The rear weight bias, coupled with the added downforce created at speed with spoiler deployed, may be contributing factors (anyone know the downforce numbers ?) The car definitely likes a little trail braking to get the front end to bite. But man does she jump out of a corner when you get on the gas and the weight transfers to those giant rubber patches in the rear. Nobody ever said a 911 drives like all the other cars out there. but few are more fun, or quicker. ;-)
  3. congrats on your new ride. pls post pics. was in the dealership last week getting my 997s serviced and happened to sit in the new diesel. very interested in learning more about them as it seems like a great balance between efficiency, sport, and utility.
  4. dont mean to be a hater, but if you think a $100 "chip" will do anything other than make your wallet $100 dollars lighter....... put that 100 towards a DE t
  5. what about tire life, reduced NVH etc? i have pirelli's on my 911s and am interested to explore other options. just replaced pirelli's on my f-150 platinum with some michelin ltx m/s2. without a doubt the best tires I've ever purchased. quiet, grippy in most conditions, and with long tread life. expensive, perhaps. but in long run well worth every penny. tires are not something I skimp on. never understood how someone can own a 100k car and put the cheapest tires on it.
  6. i would advise to stay with OEM size. Too much engineering went into a car like yours for anyone to be tinkering without changes to the suspension etc. have you looked at the Continental ExtremeContact DWS?
  7. i agree that it works best with certain color cars. silver, white etc.
  8. i like it, and a fan of any personalization that only a true p-car enthusiast would notice
  9. Congrats MIke and welcome to the forum. As a DIY'er, you will find the info very helpful (especially if you become a contributing member; Loren does a great job!) Enjoy the car and drive it hard and often.
  10. Hi all. Wondering if anyone can steer me in the right direction in S Florida. recently acquired a 1977 3.0 carrera and would like a specialist to give it a once over. have a small oil leak which i am hoping in just a valve cover issue and the transmission bushings def need replaced. thanks in advance for your help. love this site. toby
  11. i volunteer to drive it south for you. i will even pay for the gas. own 2 porsches and a '70 barracuda. serious t
  12. loren amazes me with his knowledge. !!!!! for what its worth, i have never gotten a beep when locking, but since i drive the car so infrequently, i purchased a Porsche battery tender. you can buy it for less without the P car logo but......
  13. wait till you need some new rubber, and till your "know" where the corners are ;-) here is a pic of my wheels. the car is arctic silver with black/terracotta interior. i think they are seal grey or current equivalent. have some rash on em but gonna wait till the tires are done. t
  14. im not a fan of the crest but to each their own. i am a fan of your car though! drive it hard, and often
  15. congrats Salem. my advice? drive it for a year and dont worry about the wheel. put a couple bucks away each month, enjoy the car, and have the wheel in question brought up to snuff. i feel you pain. owned my car for 2 months and kissed a curb ugh. t
  16. have had nothing but pirellis on my 997, but wouldn't object to trying some michelins or bridgestones. recently went from pirelli to the michelin ltx m/s 2 on my f-150 and couldn't be happier. all around fantastic tires. were they a bit more expensive? absolutely. worth it? u better believe it. my logic; skip the starbucks a few days a week and put the best tire available on all your cars. increase safety, decrease NVH and maximize your "fun time" behind the wheel.
  17. looks great. very aggressive, which suits the panamera. its amazing how the right set of wheels can make or break a car. and in the panamera's case, I've never been more convinced. the base wheel/tire combo should be banished congrats.
  18. congrats kmans. hope you love your new ride and all your future p-cars ;-)
  19. congrats on having such a high-class problem. you cant go wrong. welcome to the club.
  20. Hello all, I recently purchased a 1977 Carrera 3.0 (europe only production) and need to have car shipped from N. California to S. Florida. I have tried services like uship (which seem to put your bid out to brokers, not the movers themselves) and also called some of the larger companies directly. For what its worth, all have left me feeling a bit dirty. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I am a PCA member. Toby
  21. just had my 997 in for an oil change and asked the tech to take a look at my headlights. was getting flashed by every passing motorist, with them thinking my hi- beams were on; until i flashed them back. turns out the rear level sensor bracket was broken. was not covered under my extended warranty but the part was only $14.00. It was $81.50 in labor lol. according to my invoice, it was part number 996-341-371-03 (sensor link support). hope this is of help. toby
  22. FWIW, I have been using VP MS 103 (which is unleaded but contains no ethanol). While not cheap ($10 bucks a gallon !), i find a noticeable increase in "power". The real reason i have been using it is that my 997 is not a daily driver and i keep reading the horrors of ethanol, especially in a vehicle/boat/airplane that sits for any extended period. and seeing that i only put a couple thousand miles a year on her, the cost is negligible. also smells good when burning ;-) any expert opinions out there? Toby
