  1. I have the same unit. Bought a hardwire kit from Beltronics with remote readout. They also have one w/o the remote. You need the detector fuse in line, not just the car fuse. You can then pick up a hot and a ground wire anywhere. I chose the cell phone switched connection.
  2. Agree with Reefish on TireRack! You can find the right tire for your individual needs and price range. Some need M&S, some dry performance, some want quiet tire. You can comparison shop till ya drop.
  3. I saw the show and it was excellent. Worth watching again!
  4. You might try the beckerboard. You might have to register. I cannot remember. http://members4.boardhost.com/beckerboard/index.html
  5. Six RMS in 15 months?! You must be a saint. I'd have :censored: by now.
  6. Autoweek asked itself same question and gave both answers. Personally, I think it would be a wonderful decision to have to make! http://www.autoweek.com/apps/pbcs.dll/arti.../VEHICLEREVIEWS
  7. The little hook actually holds the gas cap tether. The cap hangs precariously about half an inch from the fender.
  8. Loren, Glad to hear you are reviewing the Durametrics product. It works great on their website!
  9. AutoWeek Jan 9 issue has a page on it. Also C4S comments in Drivers Log and a long term update on the Carrera S. All positive comments.
  10. I misread first time and couldn't figure out how to delete my wrong answer!
  11. Yup. Best part of membership. Just click on Current TSBs.
  12. Your ears might well be MUCH better than mine, but my AM reception is excellent. Altho typical AM interference sources like high tension lines are a problem. You might have a bad ground somewhere. I'd check that before modding the antenna.
  13. This discussion has several good points - not the least of which is that you really need a top rack for storage. Wall mount or dolly version available from dealers. Will keep top from deforming. I have wall-mount that my small wife and I have no trouble mounting top to.
  14. Thanks so much! Now that I know it can be done, is there anywhere you can direct me to find instructions on safe access to the back of the radio (cluster removal or???) and 12V power in the front trunk? Thanks again and for any additional info. You need radio removal tools from Porsche (recommend Suncoast) or Becker. They are less than $2, but you might get a bigger shipping/handling fee. Not sure if the fone connector is there in 987 as on 986, but it has switched and always on power. Harness avail from Becker if you don't want to tap into it.
  15. Go to the Reviews section of Forums. There are several units reviewed or listed.
  16. I really don't like the way car manufacturers are using this proprietary bose crap (my NSX had similar stereo issues) and compelling wholesale replacement. However, am glad to hear that it is possible to swap out the speakers & make a marked improvement in the sound quality. thanks! kristap I agree about the BOSE. Apparently they are responsible for GAL not being available with the CDR 23. The AudioPilot does not help with the volume. And Becker's response to CDR 23 criticism (especially iPod users) is that they built the radio to Porsche specs.
  17. My copy of the Bentley manual arrived from Amazon yesterday. Learned some stuff, confirmed some more. And in some cases learned what is not a DIY for me. Tons of tables, codes, and diagrams. There is also enough year/model info to be worth $63 for the non-mechanical owner. Buy it! :clapping:
  18. I'd vote for the S. Not sure if you need the 6 speed in HK, but brakes are nice factors too. My time in HK was limited, but SLK 350 probably didn't get to stretch its legs much either. Good luck. Either will be a satisfying experience!
  19. Might be too late, but just saw this. Pin 1 with red/green wire is 12V+ always hot. Pin 2 green/blk is ignition hot. Pin 3 yellow blk is phone mute. And Pin 4 brown is ground.
  20. Thanks, Loren. For this and the part number look-up!
  21. Recommend checking Amazon.com first. I ordered it from there already.
  22. Don, Just let us know if it works out. Good luck!
  23. Got the answers from my new access to TSBs. Contributing really pays off!
  24. I retrofit the spacers to my Boxster. Slightly better look. No noticeable change to feel/handling IMHO. Think hard about the heated seats Loren mentioned. I love mine even here in NC. Extends top down season and just feels good on chilly day. Probably more worthwhile where you live. Also be sure to try the sport seats before buying. I thought I wanted them, but they were to confining in the shoulders, and I'm only 6' 180 lbs. Maybe they changed for 997/987. Litronics - they came on my car and they are great, but not required for the amount of nite driving I do. Bose - with my hearing not sure it mattered, BUT maybe it is the reason I can hear the radio at all. Leather dash - source of future cracking. And I personally agree with you on the cosmetic items. Jack the price up with not much value added. Unless you got money to burn. And Loren's advice about retofittable (?) items is solid. IF you later want these items just add money and time. And enjoy this phase. The driving phase will be all the better.
