  1. That's what I thought, so I don't have an answer as to why I can't get the 1 bar max boost and can't get it into overboost at all. thanks Probably obvious, but wanted to make sure you knew to get the chrono to get overboost, you have to quickly push the accelerator all the way to the floor and you will see a small upward arrow to the right of the boost gauge. That is how you can tell the the overboost is enabled (for 10 seconds). Maybe already knew that, just making sure. DC Arrow ????? What arrow ? Every time you enable "sport" you get an arrow on the boost level indicator??? Please explain because I ve never seen that arrow. My boost level indicator has a scale up to 1.2 bar. (0 0.6 1.2). Usually boost is in between 0.6 and 1.2. Where is that arrow????? Thanks The way the Sport Chrono works....When on....You have to abruptly mash the gas pedal to the floor and you will see an arrow appear to the right side of your center gauge...This lets you know you have engaged the overboost feature. You get 10 sec.'s of overboost with Chrono on. It is a small white up-arrow. DC I cant get this thing displayed.... Questions 1. The arrow is displayed when the turbo boost level indicator is in the digital mode or in the graph mode??? 2. Assuming you have done everything right (sport mode, full throttle etc) the arrow is constantly displayed or just for a few seconds its time you press full throttle 3. Maybe European spec cars dont have this arrow??? Much appreciated HI.. Yes, It will display regardless of what display mode you have. Just have to press the "Chrono" button, and jam the gas all the way, quickly. ( I am assuming you have the Sport Chrono Option?) If not, sorry to confuse you. To the right in the center display. And it does display for just 10 seconds. I attached two images from the Owner's Manual to indicate what we are referring to... Hope that helps. DC

  3. Hi all..... I am just looking for opinions here....I installed some stainless T304 headers on my 997 Turbo. I checked for leaks, torqued carefully etc....When idling or running with no boost it sounds pretty much the same as before (maybe a little louder). When I accelerate and get boost...I can really hear the turbos (especially the driver side) spinning/whining. I checked with my mechanic at the dealer (over the phone) and he suggested with these headers you have bigger pipes, longer pipes potentially, and thinner steel than the heavy OEM headers. You have less back pressure and with the bigger opening and thinner steel would expect to hear the turbos more. I just wanted to check here to see if anyone has any thoughts/experience to put my mind at ease a little. I do not think I created a leak, because it sounds fine until you see boost on the gauge..Then it sounds like a spinning whir, not like a ticking exhaust leak.. Thanks for any input! DC
  4. What do you think? Is it as fast as I indicated? Big difference from what you had eh? Can you stop grinning when the turbos are pumping? :) Congrats and enjoy....Oh and be careful! DC
  5. Do a search on this site. I recall someone covering a DIY or at least tips on how he installed a set of these knock-off HID's in his 996. Think he covered wiring and many other topics. DC
  6. I probably get 12-14 mpg normal driving (well...Normal fast around town). Gets great mileage the few times I go on the interstate and cruise at a steady speed. (Mine is Tiptronic).... I usually leave Sport Chrono ON (- PASM). DC

  8. From your VIN....Your car is definitely a 2002 C4S 3.6 L Trans code: A96.35 Engine code: M96.03....18: turbo II look wheels and touring suspension, tiprtonic with cdr220 and cd changer, and draped (supple) leather. Not sure on part numbers for those brands. PAGID Black part should be 99-5541-650-M473 Hope that helps.... DC
  9. Bone stock with no Sport Chrono on should get about .9 and with SC on about 1.2 bar on boost gauge. You can flash the DME through OBDII and get around 80 HP gain without other mods, but other mods help. Also the difference between what you have and a 997 Turbo is not even close. If you were to race one straight line in your 996 or even 997, you would feel like you are in neutral :) With exhaust, intake, and dme flash....SCARY! Good luck. DC
  10. Wow! That sucks. And you have to be a jewel to sell someone some crap like that and lie about it. You should at the very least get a refund.....Should pay for the tow etc also. man...Some people are just A-holes. Glad it was not worse! DC
  11. I had the same issue with my 997 Turbo last year. I ordered that tire from 4 places and then they all refunded and said on back order. I ended up finding the exact tire on eBay missing only 1/32 (exactly like my other rear tire)...Brought it to Discount Tire and had it mounted (they have excellent Goat machines for mounting with no damage). Good luck DC
  12. There is a microswitch that causes the window to lower a little when you pull the handle and go back up when closed. Sounds like this may be going out on your car. There is a guide here on this site to DIY if you are handy. Otherwise may need to take to repair shop. Part is only about $35.00. Maybe others have different ideas if that is not the issue. Good luck DC
  13. Very subjective. Most websites will give you online quotes. Price is based on age, driving record, class of vehicle, miles driven annually, how many cars you have, where you live etc....Go to one of the major auto insurance sites like statefarm.com and you can get a quick quote based on the relevant variables. Good luck, DC
  14. Hi, Yes...I found the OEM batteries to be pure junk. If they sit for a week sometimes they are dead....So aftermarket is fine. If you swap, you will lose all of your settings and need your radio code. You either need to keep the cables connected to a trickle charger or one that plugs into your cigarette lighter. Key is to keep 12 volts to your system so you do not lose settings. Beyond that, nothing different. If you have your radio code, no big deal....The DME will learn your driving habits again and adjust settings , you will have to set your clock and reset the radio code...No biggie. Good luck! DC
  15. Oil seepage around the valve covers doesn't say much. That could be a lot of different things. It could be as easy as leaky spark plug tubes which is fairly common and not too difficult to fix. You'll have to get more detail. what about, the more major issues like the ims failures and any advice on extended warranty companies? On the warranty issue, do a search on this site as I recall it being discussed quite a bit. No need to repeat that discussion here. On your concerns about the engine, I would suggest if the RMS is not weeping oil for 11 years, you are probably OK with that and the IMS. If it does, you simply need to get it replaced...Not the end of the world ...labor + parts usually less than $2500. Check the price for changing a head gasket on a GM...About the same. All engines are prone to having failures. IF this car has been solid for 11 years, not likely it will bow on the way home. These engines are built to be high performance and may have a few more issues that others that are not, but overall (unless you get a lemon) they are solid and trouble free. Good luck, DC
  16. I think you pop out the rear side panel speakers by using a credit card around the edge of the cover, and then use a torx to unscrew the speaker mounting from the cutout. Someone may know differently, but I think that is all that is required to get to the speakers. Good luck. DC
  17. Check out this article on this site. I think it gets to your question. Good luck! DC Click Here
  18. You should be fine to run off of the second battery. No issues that I can think of. Good luck. DC
  19. Sounds like you have checked all of the usual issues with your unit. If you have no luck with repair, try this link CLICK HERE. There are a variety of used OEM and others on this eBay search at various prices. Good luck! DC
  20. To your issue number 1 - Maybe that is why it started leaking (no gasket)? I would put the gasket in. On number 2 - after you start the engine and it warms to temp., the thermostat will open and the coolant will be gin to flow, you can then (after it cools) add the coolant. Good luck... DC
  21. Check the search on this site. I included a link to one of the discussions. You cannot really get much from the older VIN's but this may help? LINK Click Here Good luck. DC PS I see you live in Lafayette...Cajun Country! I used to play football for Nicholl's State...Then transferred to LSU...Lived in Baton Rouge, New Orleans, & Mandeville....Sure miss the food!
  22. Yeah...Thanks! I am just waiting until my lovely spouse says to do it :) Also, I realize the original post is a non-turbo. From what I have seen, while not quite as extreme, Softronic is still the way to go for a NA as well. Check Here .....And only $995. Bumps up the HP and torque and creates a more responsive map.... 3.6L Stock Power – 325HP and 273ft/lbs Tuned Power – 345HP and 295ft/lbs 3.8L Stock Power – 355HP and 295ft/lbs Tuned Power – 389HP and 330ft/lbs Good luck! And thanks for getting me all excited again phillipj :) I will have to be all nice to my wife now so she will "allow" me to purchase it....Since I just got her a whole kitchen full of new granite counter tops etc...Might have some leverage.... DC
  23. Everything I see and read points to Softronic. My wife is warming up to the idea, so as soon as I get my next bonus (and if she stays in a good mood :)) I will be getting the Softronic flash for my 997 Turbo. The people who have used this seem to really love the results. I also have two great dealerships and since I have several Porsches, have established a good relationship with the service departments. The mechanics have indicated the flash works great and does not harm anything (after warranty ends...of course). Not speaking officially on behalf of Porsche obviously. Good luck. DC
  24. HI, I have attached the parts lists for you. This should give you everything you would need. Just make certain you pick your correct version. All parts are for a 2001 Boxster. Good luck. DC
