  1. Sweet looking ride. I have the same wheels...they were a difference maker for me on the purchase of mine. RB
  2. I concur with JFP. If you have the transmission out you should do the IMS. As JFP stated you need to check the IMS flange as my '01 3.4L has a dual row. I replaced mine during a clutch/RMS replacement with the LN dual row and have put 30k miles on with confidence.
  3. Jake Raby, Flat 6 Innovations, recommends Joe Gibbs Driven DT40. His engine warranty requires its use.
  4. Kim, Jake and team will take care of you. I recently attended his and Tony Callas M96-101 class in New Jersey. Learned a lot, but gained even more respect for these two guys and the work they do. Good luck!
  5. Ouch, is right. Have you checked the oil filter for metal bits. Also, drop the sump and check for metal debris. Classic signs of IMSB. A new problem with the 5 chains is timing chain failure. Good luck and hoping it is nothing serious.
  6. Agree with the above...get composite impellers and do the low temp thermostat. The oil/coolant exchanger heats the oil which leads to premature oil breakdown.
  7. Welcome to the forum! I suggest getting the history regarding pervious repairs, if any, regarding the IMS and RMS. Assuming you can not get or history is not available, I suggest pulling the oil filter and cutting open to check for metal specks. Using a black light will make it easier to see. If metal specks are present, I would have my car transported to and LN a Engineering LN Engineering authorize IMS installer. Sorry for the break in reply...fat fingers.
  8. I agree with JFP. In addition you have made the choice to go with the LN retrofit, the industry leading solution, therefore, follow through with the best practice for installation. They develop the procedure for a reason. You do not want to find out the hard way the cams shifted for some reason....a preventive expense in your investment will become a reaction expense.
  9. I concur, you will be fine. The 996 gives you great confidence in it's stability. I've had the backend brake loose only a couple times on a wet road with tires at end of life and was pushing it. No problems with quick and easy recovery. I think you will be impressed the pure feel.
  10. JFP is there any correlation between the VIN's that are covered in the USA IMS Class Action and single-row? This is to say, if one's VIN is in the class the vehicle has a single-row.
  11. I suggest checking with your local PCA club who may have tools for loan.
  12. Just got an email indicating this book is being pushed out, yet again, for delivery. Now in the March 20th - April 14th timeframe. :(
  13. Recently picked up an oil filter kit (filter and gasket) for my 2014 Cayenne and wanted to share the part number for reference: Porsche Part No.: 958 107 222 10 VW/Audi Part No.: 03H 115 562 2014 Cayenne, 3.6L V6. NOTE - this is a VW manufactured engine.
  14. Ben, I performed this replacement about year and half ago and followed the Ignition Lock DIY here in Renntech and had no problems. Hope this helps. Best, Rob
  15. I replace mine with an LN at 50K along with clutch and RMS, and now have 72K and have no fear of making a thousand mile trip at any time....I agree with Ahsai, get the peace of mind.
  16. Wayne Dempsey has written another 101 Projects book. This time his focus is on the 996 and 997. Amazon is offering the service manual at $22.39, a pre-order price. A link is provided below: http://astore.amazon.com/renntechorg-20/detail/0760344035
  17. Its was a nice day in the Philly area, therefore, I decided to check the plugs. Loren nailed it! The plug in cylinder 5 needed a little torque. Never would have thought a spark plug could cause chirp. Thanks again Loren! Jason, nothing like a little chirp from the Michelin Pilot Super Sports! Have a great rest of the weekend guys!
  18. I have a 2001 manual 996 and recently drove a 1400 mile trip. The day after the trip I noticed a chirp when I accelerate or place load on the engine. I replaced the poly belt given the car has 70k miles think that may be this issue, but still have the problem. Sound appears to come from the passenger side of the engine. Turning the AC on/off has no impact. all pulleys moved freely and did not feel loose during the belt. Greatly appreciate any insight.
  19. 2001 C2 manual coup @ 71K. Daily driver - every time I drive it's like a mini vacation. Replaced clutch, RMS and IMS with LN at 50K
