  1. Good bit of detective work there. In case the bigger nail breaks, try a broken drill bit. It should be far more rigid and less likely to snap when you'd least like it. Regards Popolou
  2. Both cars are fabricated in Finland. Have you been told of a TSB in relation to the fault? First i've heard of it TBH. Regards Popolou
  3. Thanks for the info. Yes. i was of a similar opinion on the inputs and also intend on using either a bunch of USB sticks or a miniature HDD as the source. As i understand it, with a large library of MP3's, the PCM would see this as being one large 'CD' and hence allow for simple playback. I suppose (and do correct me if i get this wrong) this would mean that there is no playback from specific lists such as that filtered by genre, without a pre-defined playlist. It's interesting now to see the number of installations happening and hope to be up and running soon too. Regards Popolou
  4. Tobias, Thanks for the post; it's very informative. Have you compared the performance to that of a HD based player? I won't be using an iPod however would like to know whether the GW500 will re`ognise regular PlayForSure devices and allow the extended abilities of the player rather than reading off the HD. Do you intend on running the switch for the changer inside the cabin? Also, i haven't heard much feedback from users on the running temperature of the unit. If indeed it does get a bit hot under there, you may want to keep an eye on that. Cheers, Popolou
  5. And the catch is..... PCM. In a way they are correct, but in the same way they are wrong. The only system they sell that supports MP3 is the full PCM kit. Again, only MY05 onwards plays MP3's too. It seems those cars prior to this date AND with PCM aren't able to do it either. :( Regards Popolou
  6. No experience as such, but i am intending on doing a similar install using the Dension unit instead. As i understand it, you will need to remove the rear carpet flaps down in each footwell and behind the main console. There is a screw that is removed, the piece comes out and unclip the trim either side of the console and slide out away from the dash. Its attached via runners ans so should be easy to get it back in the same position. As for the PCM, this i intend to play by eye when i get there. I am assuming that there are some sort of clips or mini-torx screws that need loosening before you can remove the unit. I'm sure others may be able to fill in the gaps. Regards Popolou
  7. Not true from my findings/reading. You have no idea what that code is related to without running a PST2 or Durametric against it. It could be the common and simple drivers side seat belt contacts triggering the SRS light which has no affect on airbad deployment. And to answer the initial question it has no ill affect on the rest of the vehicle nor the SRS system. Drive it forever if you must. I'm sure you'll find the seat belt contact culprit the most likly supsect. Check the TSB related to it. Shawn Hmm, admittedly my experience is with the 987. The tech's at the OPC made it clear that the system will default off if a fault is detected so i guess this is a change from the previous generation. Regards Popolou
  8. Been several days with a fault and had no resultant consequence. The SRS system is totally disabled mind, so it would be best to book it in when next convenient. Regards Popolou
  9. I've read of a number of those in-line adaptors that soften the water meaning you don't get Ny water marks left over. Check the back of a few motoring mags and you might see them advertised. Dunno how good they work, but i suspect its best to solve the problem from the source rather than exhaust yourself with the prep work Regards Popolou
  10. Its the Ackerman steering. The wheel on the inside of the turn will lean and turn in more than the other side meaning you get this jumpy movement at the particular tyre. More pronounced when reversing and akin to driving on compacted snow. Its all normal. Regards Popolou
  11. Thanks for the screenshots. Any chance of a pic showing the search function and page views when going into albums -> Tracks, say? Regards Popolou
  12. IIRC, i believe its a green wire. Regards Popolou
  13. Check out this link :D Close 2nd! BTW, to the original poster if you are based in the UK (a stab? ;)) check out our link on a boxster dedicated forum - Linky. Regards Popolou
  14. The reason the manual says this is for emissions only. Identical scenario with all manufacturers. Regards Popolou
  15. Warm up is a process that takes some 10 mins (depending on climes, of course), however on startup i tend to wait for around 3 mins when the engine revs drop below the 1k mark. It's a noticeable drop which can be easily heard. After that, its just a simple matter of keeping things smooth and easy until the motor/oil reaches temperature. Regards Popolou
  16. Nick, Any chance of an update to this. As with a few number of others here in the UK, i'm curious how well it interfaces with the PCM. I'd be obliged if you can answer a few q's of mine: - 1. Does it rely on a playlist for the tracks off the media or does it read the tracks individually. 2. Does it also read the ID tags (V2 or 3?). 3. Are the tracks all read in advance and catalogued by the GW500 or is there a slight delay between tracks for the info to load up. 4. Does the CD info screen in the INFO section show any more of the tag details per track? 5. Can you fully navigate all available tracks from the PCM? 6. Does it handle folders, such as one folder deep to aid sorting? 7. Does the unit radiate much heat when in opperation for a normal period of time? Sorry for all these but being an early stage it's not proving easy to find knowledgeable people as yet. Many thanks! Regards Popolou
  17. I recall another forum member being in the same predicament and ordered all the parts neccessary to undertake the job. Thing is, he dropped the project when he realised how much he needed to take apart/install to get the job done. Try a search on the topic and you should turn up the thread with pics. Regards Popolou
  18. IIRC, the Airbag ECU module is located under the centre dash in-front of the gearstick. Could you have possibly dislodged it or a plug came loose? Regards Popolou
  19. Do keep us posted. Unfortunately, i just put the HT on today so i've got another set of sounds coming from the cold rubbers taking the full weight of the HT! Soon settled down tho. When i get back over the New Years i'm gonna tackle this head on. I suspect the only difficulty with the whole process would be pulling back the headlining to get at the hinges. After that it should just be a matter of lightly lube'ing the right one. Best of luck. Regards Popolou
  20. Just pull the fuse to the PCM. It will reset and eject anything in the drive when you next power it on. Regards Popolou
  21. Cheers. I'm trying to undertake a little examination for myself. I just need to discover how the fabric trim is pulled back before i can examine the mechanisms. Regards Popolou
  22. Hello and welcome to the nut house! 1. Usual Porsche sounds for the engines. Its the tappets before the oil gets to them. However, there was a recall for a replacement oil piston valve that caused a slight rattle for the first 15 minutes during warm up before it gets to operating temperature. The symptoms are rattle from start directly behind you (on drivers side, UK) and a louder rattling/screeching sound @ 2,100rpm. If this is the case then instruct them to carry out the recall for this. See 5. 2. The vent on the right side of the car is the engine bay fan intake. I personally have not smelt anything remotely similar so it might be a good idea to have a peek into the engine bay to confirm all is well. 3. The oil check should only be read when the car is on stable flat ground and after its been left for either a long while or 30-40 mins after switch off. It is indeed suceptible to gradients and tend to read full when the car is tilted forward and may flash empty if tilted back. 4. The service indicator is dependant on the when the ECU considers it to be the right time to service. This is determined by the internal sensors and readings it collects. Many OPC's however recommend taking the car in when its due by calendar rather than by the display. 5. Renntech does a superb table listing of all the recalls carried out for each model. Try the Quickmenu above and select Current TSB (Technical Service Bulletins). Regards and enjoy! Popolou
  23. I believe i'm in the same boat. Over harsh roads you would hear the clicking of a sticky joint. its not so much a rattle, but rather a joint that could do with some lube. I've been trying to place it and i think its coming from the frame mount behind the seatbelt spools at the top. It's on both sides. I'm not convinced that the OPC will know what to do in this case (from previous reports on this) and may even exacerbate the problem unfortunately. Regards Popolou
  24. I remember reading something on here about removing the bumperettes since its been done. Try a search. I seem to recall that behind the PU there is a metal bar that needs attention, or something on those lines. Regards Popolou
