Doing the 80K mile service and have run into a problem. The oil is changed, all filters refreshed, motor mounts replaced, brake fluid flushed, but plugs need to be replaced. Never pulled mufflers with PSE, and am at a loss on how to remove the stainless braided vacuum hoses that are crimped onto the valves. The heat shield (driver's side) is off, but without removing the muffler can only get to two of the three plugs. Hoping for help and thanks in advance. FWIW ... 2012 GTS. CPD996 posted a topic in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)I am looking to shave some weight off my 02 with factory PSE. My question is,will a fabspeed ( or any) muffler work with the factory PSE set up? Is it just a matter of removal of oem and replacement with aftermarket? plug and play as its been called? Hi all, This will be my first post, thanks for a great forum ! I've recently purchased a exhaust system from Design911 in the UK which has the valvetronic function on. This is said to replicate the PSE which my car does not have factory installed. Wired it up and put the vacuum hoses, tested the system and it works fine. Over to the issue for my car: When starting up the car, the neutral positon of the valves is open, which means a lot of noice from the exhaust. When switching this by the solenoid, sending vacuum into the system and the valves closes. This means less sound. But when the valves is closed the car wont run properly at the RPM range of 5500-7000 RPM's there is also fault codes for misfire on cylinder 2. The strange thing is that this works perfectly when the valves is open. I've tried two differnet vacuum sources, into the ressonator and also for the left hand side cooling system vacuum solenoids. Without any differnce. I tried to run vacuum directly to the vacuum actuators on the exhaust without any difference and also tried manually applying vacuum and using a one way check valve to keep the vacuum while not connected to the cars vacuum line. No vacuum leaks, no fault codes when driving with the valves open. Same result every time. So have anyone had some similar issues to their car ? Thanks in advance for any help !
Hi Folks - a UK forum newbie here with a tech question for the collective, if I may? I have an 07 C4S with the sports chassis option, sports chrono and and X51 factory upgrade. This means it only has a sport switch, which activates the PSE and softens the psm (no PASM due to the sports chassis pack). The PSE is having issues though - essentially it doesn't work properly. On start up the valves are open, but as expected when the vacuum builds up they close. However they don't open when the sport button is pressed. I recently replaced the solenoid as I tested it and it had failed and for a couple of times, the new solenoid worked, but now its stopped. As part of the replacement process, we tested the voltage at the solenoid plug with the sport button on and off. With it off, the plug registered and 12.5v with it on, it dropped to about 8v and the pse worked. After it stopped working, we checked the voltage at the plug again and this time it showed 14.5v when off and 10.5v with it on. So clearly the voltage isn't dropping to 0 as it should do and 10.5v is too much to switch the solenoid. Having been in communications with a couple of people on a UK forum, the feeling is that it's most likely a bad earth causing the volts not to drop to 0. Has anyone on here experienced a similar issue? Could you suggest any tests that I could run in order to identify what the cause could be? I'm thinking a straight forward earth to checck would be the engine loom earth near to cylinder 3? Thanks in advance for your advice and assistance. Monkey
Hey Folks, New to the forum - just joined - so I hope this is in the right place. This is all in reference to a 2013 Cayenne GTS. I've got three questions I hope someone can help clarify. First, I've been reading a bit about the "cut off" between 25-50mph (these numbers fluctuate depending on which forum you are in) regardless of if the PSE is turned on. Is this something that is true? I'm pretty sure I can hear this cut off, but ever since I read about it, I can't tell if it's legitimate or just in my head (Baader-Meinhof Phenomenon type scenario) This post talks about how to remove that by bypassing a diode: http://www.renntech.org/forums/tutorials/article/86-remove-pse-cutout-in-2-minutes-no-tools-required/ If all is true, anyone have any resource on how to finagle this diode on the Cayenne? Where is this diode/relay? Does this mod work for the Cayenne? Second, it looks to be about 600TU to install the PSE if you don't have it, but 150 TU to install just the button (model depending). They didn't put the selector button in until 2014, so, does anyone know if you can have it wired in to the 2013? I'd rather look like an idiot here before going to the dealer. Third, does anyone have or know of a reputable place to get the full factory manual for the car? Thanks in advanced!
Has anyone had any problems with the sport exhaust failing (without and indication lights)? Does tracking damage this temporarily? Brief history for my car for perspective: bought my 2007 C4S with sport exhaust and sport/chrono package as a CPO 2 years ago. The sport exhaust didn't work when I bought it so dealer tried to fix it but didn't work still so they fixed it again. Since then, it worked the vast majority of the time except after my first two track experiences (which by the way were incredible in this car!). I noticed that by the end of each track day I could not hear the sport exhaust anymore and was uncertain whether the sport button worked at all. Each time it fixed itself despite a trip to the dealer several months ago to investigate before CPO ran out but they found nothing wrong. Should I be worried? Is it normal to temporarily go out after tracking? It's already been fixed twice by the dealer pre-tracking...

I've recently bought a 2006 C2S with Chrono Sports Package Plus, but I'm not sure if it's equipped with the sports exhaust option. I understand that since the PSE (in installed) would be activated by the Chrono Sports button, there isn't a separate button (with the twin-pipe-tip logo) for it. When I activate the Sports mode, I do not hear any different and it doesn't sound like a sport exhaust. Is there a visual / electronic way to confirm if the PSE is installed? Thanks in advance. Kim posted a topic in 996 Series (Carrera, Carrera 4, Carrera 4S, Targa)With help from this forum (thanks Orient Express), I installed the PSE on my 2000 Cab a number of years ago. It was great, worked fine ... but did not last quite the long time I had hoped. For the past year, it has intermittently not reacted to the Quiet switch. Even though the indicator in the switch would flash as the ignition was turned on, the switch would accomplish nothing. Then, it would began to work again ... maybe for a few weeks ... then back to "no response to the switch. Full time loud. Because I often leave my neighborhood very early, this is not a neighborly situation. So I pulled the front seat, fuse panel carpet area, back of fuse box and relay carrier and, in effect, rewired the PSE as I checked each connection. Found the ground wire to be suspicious, so thought that might be it ... but couldn't check until I put the seat back as I didn't wish to turn on the airbag warning light. With all back in place, I turned on the ignition, pressed the switch, and ... voila ... I could hear it operate in the engine compartment, along with seeing the light come on in the switch. Finish buttoning up, start the car, and found I was right back where I started. No response to pressing the switch. Any ideas? I put a new relay on order with Sunset, but do not hold out much hope since it did operate that one time after my re-wiring.
Hi all, Being fed up with the droning noise I had between 3 and 4 Krpm I decided to take a look seriously at it I first thought it was coming from the tailpipes, no no, they sound like an empty tin can but no they are not the cause I remembered having read about potential break of the exhaust pipes reinforcement ( since there are 2 of them on the PSE), that reinforcement is a thick piece of metal that kind of wrap up the pipes together, I really looked carefully a couple of time before but could not find any issue, when taking away the tailpipes i could see it better and it was clearly broken at 2 places on the 2 sides, this will require welding which I am planing to do But To be sure that I am not going to weld for nothing I decided to open the crack and put some silicon ( loctite 5940) to kind of dampen the noise The good news is that it works and it lasts, silicon will stand high temperatures and will stand time This is now day and night for me, that droning was just annoying, I am not ashamed to rev in public anymore :D This quickfix could be a solution for those not wanting to weld and it takes maximum 5 minutes I am planning to do the welding and will document it in the DIY section Picture from ebay, the reinforcement can be seen just above the big pipe
