Henry does it again. 6794 Graystone Lane, San Jose.

We start at 9:30 am, and end 3 hours later. No messy projects. A PST2 clone will be there. Loren and MMD will be there in spirit.

As in the past, this will not be limited to Boxstirs.

Need a list of projects so we can fit them into the 3 hour time slot. Jeff

Thanks Henry and TP. I will bring my 4 leg levers (OBC) . Other then that, I would like to see if we could do a quick 3.4 conversion on my 2.5L :-P promise not to spill any oil ;-)

I can't wait to see everyone again, it's been a long time. What kinda of beer should I bring?

I'll bring my Motive brake bleeder, to flush and bleed my brakes with some of that Ate gold brake fluid that I just bought.

T/P and Henry...my front trunk latch release is sticky, can I bring it there and see if it could be fix first before I order the parts or is anyone out there would happen to have an extra front latch release that would like to sell? Also my airbag light is on :(

And I will never live down that nickname. When people at our local dealership also started calling me Tool Pants it was over.

Years ago Dan started the local work on cars days. When he moved out of the area we tried to keep the tradition going.

If you want to know what ATE super blue brake fluid taste like - ask Dan....

By watching Dan I learned how not to change the brake fluid.

Yes. We have done this before.

If you do not already have it you will need the wiring harness. You can make it or a local Boxster owner sells it. Patrick at http://www.patricktam.net/Weblog/PermaLink...29a8a2264c.aspx

You also need the switch in gloss finish for your year.

That would be a good project to keep Kirby busy and out of trouble. If he complains that it is too hot he can work in the shade inside the garages. I'll even put a bowl of water on the floor. :P

  • 2 weeks later...

I need a brake service on my 03 Boxster S. How much time will this take if I did DIY. This include, rotors, pads, brake flush. I don't own any tools, so do you think it's feasible for me to show up with the parts and expect to borrow some tools? How much should I expect parts to cost?

I'll bring donuts! :D

Thanks in advance,

Brian

Not much in the way of tools are needed, so the tools will be there and a Motive. The brake flush can be done at the same time as Duster/Ray so that will save time.

If you are using aftermarket rotors then paint the hats ahead of time. If you are using shims for the pads then get new shims unless you want to reuse the old ones. We reuse the sensors unless they are bad. Porsche says to replace the caliper bolts. We reuse the retaining pin, spring plate, and clip. You need 1 liter of brake fluid.

Hi, new member and Pcar owner here. I would like to stop by to introduce myself. I relocated to CA from PA in October and traded my ATV and 4Runner in for a 99 996. Driving 17 weekly was getting old, now I look forward to it. Most of all I'd just like to meet people with a common interest that may want to meet for drives or wrench sometimes, but if there is time I sure wouldn't mind a brake flush since that is what Porsche pointed out in the PPI. It seems kind of basic, but Im still in that "holding a newborn" stage and afraid to wrench on the 996. Thanks-TJ\\

Wow, Henry's is right down the street from me.

My car has been making this sound like two metal pans scraping together. Steven's Creek Porsche says I need a new right rear muffler. I was thinking of just getting some Fabspeed mufflers but my current aftermarket EasyCare warranty (which is almost expired) would not cover the engine if I installed an after market exhaust.

If I bought a new Porsche muffler ($444) came down there with it, could I get some help with an install?

Do you guys recommend getting aftermarket warranties?

Does anyone know of a warranty I could pick up that would allow me to do some mods?

By the way I have an Arctic Silver 2000 911 C2 Coupe Manual Transmission.

Henry and Ray have swapped faces before on the old style clusters so they should be able to help you. I will be pulling the instrument clusters on 1 and maybe 2 Boxsters for the OBC/trip computer retrofits. That part takes 5 minutes.

The delicate part of the face swap operation is getting the indicator needles back on in the correct position....
