I did a search before I posted a new Topic.

I previously found out to get a 964 to sound like I wanted, but now that I have a 996, I'd like to know if there are any exhausts out there that will give a stock 996 more a F1, Bike, Ferrari, Carrera GT howl type sound. I have heard Tubi's, AP, PSE, Fabspeed etc. and they are more grumbly and don't sound smooth. I am looking for more of that smooth trumpet howl sound. Perhaps if I am after that type of sound, I should leave the stock sewing machine sound alone?

I really love the way my engine sounds with the GHL mufflers and K & N CAI. A BMW owner at a DE in Texas said I had the sweetest sounding car out there. I think he was right but, I could be biased. :D

Hello all, thanks for the replies.

With a large displacement 6 cylinder engine you're going to have a lower rumbly sound. Larger cylinders -> lower revs but more torque.

Ferraris have 8 or 12 cylinder engines with each cylinder having less displacement -> can rev more -> sounds like motorcycle. BTW, even though motorcycles have 4 cylinders they are much smaller cylinders and can hence rev even more, upto 14k on sports bikes!

So ... I think you could get close with tubi or PSE but you need more cylinders and a high reving engine for the ferrari/sportbike sound.

cheers!

Hello all, thanks for the replies.

I had that sound with the PSE on a 2.5L 986. Like the other post said, I think a larger bore is part of the problem with reproducing that sound in a 996. I haven't found it for my 996 yet, but I'll buy it in a heartbeat if I do.
