Aftermarket Navigation With Most

Recommended Posts

I've read a TON of posts on this topic but have yet to come across a success story. Has anyone installed an aftermarket nav system without rewiring, re-amping, etc.?

Any insight is appreciated.

Thanks!

I have installed 2 Pioneer Avic. One was a the N3 (flip up model) the other D3 (double din) in Boxster 986 my99 and 00. Factory amps and speakers were retained and it improved the sound. A wire harness adapter can be used so that the factory plug is not removed or cut. The factory radio can be returned easily. Very easy to do no major rewire only need to add e-brake wire (tap on to factory wire) and reverse wire. Also an antenna adapter is needed due to European cars have a different antenna wire plug, again no cutting just plug and play.

Thanks boxs2000 but I don't believe the 986 MY99 and MY00 have the MOST fiber optic setup. I have a MY03 C4S and was hoping to install a double din aftermarket nav without having to remove the MOST system and rewire everything. I have yet to come across any plug and play systems for this. As far as I know my only option is to run new amps, wire, etc.

I, like you, have been looking at posts for over a year and have never seen anyone with a compatible unit to the MOST system. A local high-end shop that installed my Escort SRX indicated that they had never seen a compatible NAV or head unit. Their only option so far was to replace everything back to the amp. Their clients often replaced the speakers as well. Not an inexpensive undertaking.

i work at la jolla aduio in San Diego California... you can come to www.lajollaaudio.com and check it out.. but besides that....

We specialize in the Porsches being that we work directly with all the porsche dealers around here.

in a 996 you can tell if you have a Most system if you have a Glove box, unles you have a targa, that doesnt apply.

Let me get this right out inthe open:

THERE ARE NO SUCH THINGS AS AFTERMARKET RADIOS THAT CAN PLUG INTO A MOST OR D2B SYSTEM.

the only real, quality aftermarkt fiberoptic touchscreen system is the Alpine System. but they use a completely different FO system. there are certain things that can be done to make it look like the factory system, i.e. where and how you hide the Amp. we do Pioneer and Alpine Navigation systems all the time, between the 986 996, 987, 987c, and 997, we do at least 1 navigation system a week, usually 2. we have a specific amplifier we use to tie into the system, but it still has to be replaced. if you ever want to know how it works, or what parts we use, or want pictures, plesae call us, or email me. i can email you some pictures.

This is a link to my car and my AVIC-Z2 install. It was a little pricy but well worth it. No it did not require rewiring.

Good luck

if your car was not rewired, it was not a MOST system... i have been working on these cars for 26 years, and i can show you pictures of over 100 996/86 and newer body styles that my shop has install these pioneer and alpine systems in. i can tll you this... if your car has a glove box, it is most, therefore will require rewire. there is an exception to the rule, howver by looking at the cars you all have, it would not apply to any of you.
