looks like my clutch may be out on my MY99c2cab. the pedal has been stiff for a little while and while driving the other day, the pedal wouldnt come back up all the way. just want to make sure there is nothing i can try before bringing it in. Anything worth checking for DIY?

thanks pj

I am having a problem something like this with my 01 S. I push down and the pedal comes back up a little slower than it should.... almost like it is rubbing or catching on something. Any ideas??? 76,000 miles. Clutch is same effort to push down and does not slip.

There was a design change for the fork arms. I can't really recall what the issue was but the factory redesigned the fork. As far as the slave goes, its one thing that you have easy access to while the transaxle is out for the clutch and the seals in it will break down over time. For as little as it costs, not a bad idea to go ahead and put a new one in while you're down there. It isn't that big of a deal if you don't but it is a good P.M. idea. I'm now wishing that I'd done mine while I was replacing the clutch and flywheel ... oh well.

BTW, if you become a contributing member you can find the TSB that talks about the fork update.

If the pedal is much harder than it was - that is a sure sign the clutch disc is gone.

Best to get it fixed before any damage is done to the flywheel.

Loren, what makes the pedal harder when the clutch disc is worn?

Leverage. As the disc wears, the pressure plate's fingers extend further as the clutch is engauged, changing the angle of the clutch release lever against the throwout bearing. In most cases, expecially with a hydraulic clucth, the increase in needed clutch pedal pressure is not noticeable.
