Downsides of disabling PSE "auto mute"?

I have a question for Loren (or for anyone else who knows). I picked up a new '04 C4S this weekend that has the Porsche Sports Exhaust as a factory option. Because I didn't want the 30-45mph automatic cut-out in the PSE and instead wanted the PSE to be in full "on" mode for the entire speedometer range, TC (Houston) and I removed the jumper as shown in Loren's great instructions. Now the PSE sings its song during the entirety of all my drives!

However, TC and I couldn't remember if there were any downsides to removing the jumper. I did a quick search on this board, and it seems like removing the jumper affects the Sat/Nav functions in PCM, but is that it? I don't have PCM, so does that mean I have no downsides? Does removing the jumper affect whether the dealer can set my doors to lock at 5mph?

Thanks for any insight anyone may have.

First, they were not my instructions - I simply helped someone find the right wires. There are several grey/pink wires used for the Speedometer A connections. These are used to control the PSE cutout, trigger the PCM to vehicle speed and inhibit for the cab top (so you don't try to raise or lower at too high a speed).

If you want your PSE open all the time the solution is simple - remove the PSE relay (without removing the jumper bar). No other functions will be affected.

If you want the switch to work then you need to disconnect the right grey/pink wire while leaving the others connected. I don't know a good way to find the right one other than trial and error.

Where do I find the PSE relay and the instructions to remove it?  Thanks!

The relay should be in position 23 (lower left most relay position) and it should be labeled "Abgasklappen Relais". The part number may be different. Just pull it out to unlpug it.

Thanks. I take it I simply unplug it and leave it hanging there? Is PSE auto mute between 30-45MPH the only thing this relay effect? Will my PSE on-off switch still work?

Just figured it out. My relay number was 996.618.980.03. I took it out and the exhaust didn't silence however my PSE switch no longer worked. Based on what I read, I would need to open the relay, remove the four prong jumper and insert the relay back into the panel. The PSE switch should now work without the auto mute between 3-5000 RPMs. Is this the correct procedure?

You do not open the relay the jumper is on the back of the relay panel.

If you want the switch to work then you need to do as original instructions said. Then find and disconnect the Speedometer A grey/pink wire for the PSE so that your PCM will not be affected.

I just got a fabspeed muffler bypass. I'm worried now about the legality of it all. It appears though that a PSE with the bypass always on is basically the same as the FabSpeed bypass or am I wrong? Just how loud is the PSE in bypass mode? Is there any muffler at all when it's in bypass mode? Can you still get tickets? I'm just pondering all this after before installing the FabSpeed muffler on my C4.

I'll do db reading for the sound level before and after and post when I'm done.

Wow! I just bought a new C4S with PSE and for the life of me couldn't figure out why my PSE "disappeared" in that speed range. Now I know. :clapping:

I definitely want to disable this function. Can you point me to the original instruction thread?

The PSE is basically 2 mufflers in one which are switchable via an electronically controlled vacuum valve.

1: You can switch in both muffler sections via a vacuum operated valve and then the exhaust gas has to travel through all the sections/chambers which produces a standard quiet exhaust noise.

2: You can then switch out (bypass) part of the muffler via the vacuum valve and then the exhaust gas bypasses part(s) of the muffler but still travels through some muffler sections to achieve a louder exhaust note without being a full on bypass setup. ie. it is much louder but not too excessive. They sound like a REAL sports car should..... :D

The fabspeed bypass pipes are just hollow pipes which are attached to the catalytic converter output once the existing mufflers are removed from the vehicle. ie. there are no mufflers on a vehicle with bypass pipes. This is a very loud setup (racecar loud).

if i bought the PSE witht he electronics, and i dont install the electronics, it will be on at all times right? Im guessing there is no difference, it is just the electronics that amke the difference, but all PSE can be fitted with the electronics without ordering it with them. Hope you understood that, ha. I ordered the PSE with the electronics, but i decided i dont want the electronics anymore, so i can jsut install the mufflers and it will be loud right?
