Greetings to all.

I am getting ready to purchase either an 05 Cayenne Turbo or 05 S. This will be my first Porsche ever. I am very excited. I've always wanted a Porsche since I was a kid. My first Porsche lust was the black 928 in the movie "Weird Science"(Alright, Kelly LaBrock was pretty HOT also). I settled on the Cayenne because of the family needs and the 7700lb towing capacity for my ski boat. It has the best of both worlds. Power, performance(for an SUV) and it can tow a schit load.

I was wondering what the other Cayenne owners are getting in real world gas mileage.

When I finally get one, I will post some pictures in the other previous thread.

(I know I could use the search, but I want to introduce myself first. I would like to be a contributing member as well).

Again, HOLA! I will be looking forward to being an active member on this site and hopefully picking a few brains for info and DIY secrets. :D

Jose

Well good luck finding the right one, go for the turbo you won't be sorry. I am pretty new myself here I just bought an '05 Cayenne Turbo in Feb and it was my first Porsche as well. Big switch from driving a supra, but its still fun and more practical. As for the gas mileage with a mixture of interstate and city driving and not going crazy on the throttle i am averaging around 14.5 to 15mpg.

13-15 mpg daily on a 04 Turbo, and i "drive it like i stole it" about 1-2 days a week.

I noticed towing milage to be in the low teens at best, I'd say 11-13. I was towing 4200 lbs over 140 miles at 45-65 mph.

The difference between turbo and S is nothing, until you want to feel some speed. The S is respectable, but not quick. It's just a standard SUV when it comes to quickness. The turbo is rediculously fast; even powerful sports cars will need to be on their toes just to pass you.

More seriously... consider the fact if you're worrying about gas milage, you're *really* buying the wrong vehicle.

Thanks everyone for the input.

I'm not worried about gas mileage. I was trying to get a comparison with the car I am about to sell. I have a 2005 Dodge Magnum with the Hemi. I get about 15-16 around town with some freeway driving. Long freeway stretches, I am getting 20-22 MPH lightly loaded. I once got 26 MPH on a 450 mile trip by myself with the cruise set at 72 MPH. I was towing a 4200 lb ski boat with my Magnum. I got 12 MPH. Only thing was that the max tow capacity on the Magnum is 3800 lb. That's why Im getting a Cayenne. Performance, utility and fun.

I guess its on too different with the mileage Im already getting.

Not sure how you can dream of Porsche all your life and then get a Cayenne as your first? They hardly represent the traditional values of the brand.

That aside I've just bought an MY05 turbo that I had a dealer check over before purchase. He missed a lot of problems so make sure you don't rely on others to check things and don't assume the headlights work etc. (i.e. turn them on during test drive etc)

To answer your question about towing, the Cayenne is a very good towing vehicule. Even the V6 give a good torque from 2,500 to 5,500 rpm and you got 90% of your torque even at 2,000. But the wind wall can decrease your mileage down to 11mpg at 65-70 mph. I'm towing a 22' trailer weight about 5,000 full loaded in long distance and sometime at high temperature / mountain :D and I never seen any increase of oil or water temperature in the dashboard. Others are welcome to share your towing experience.

  • 3 weeks later...

Well, I finally pulled the trigger. I picked up a 2006 CS with 43K miles. It was a lease return and it was in excellent condition. I am super jazzed about this car. Here it is.

I hooked up my boat to it. That's the reason why I bought the Cayenne for. It pulls it like it's not even back there.

This is what I used to drive

I am grateful and happy to have a Porsche.

I know Loren. Post pictures in the Gallery. I just had to put a couple up here.
